New Orleans

Well I have a custom break cue just about ready to ship to a little town in LA that has been on the news all day today. Its a little town near New Orleans. I think I will be shipping a check to the American Red Cross instead and hoping things will turn out well so I can ship this break cue to its owner in the next couple of weeks. And Gerald I hope you are in some nice hotel room in Florida waiting this out. It looks like New Orleans and the American Red Cross could use some help from us.

They got hit really hard, and our prayers here go out to the people in the path. That hurricane makes the damage we had last year look like a sunday drive. I hope everyone is safe. I've seen some of the damage on the news also, and some places were leveled, and some neighborhoods unreconizable from what I heard. I really feel for them. Just being without power for a few weeks, and having some damage is bad enough in a hot climate, but to have your house completely leveled or flooded up to the trusses at the same time has to be heartbreaking. It's going to take a long time for them to recover from this. Greg

And from Mississippi...

People,
I have not heard yet from my parents since about 1 pm yesterday. The eye of Katrina was about over my hometown and power had been out since about 9 am. Now all phones are out and I can't even reach them via cell right now. My family lives in a small town called Columbia, Mississippi nearby Hattiesburg. Last time I talked to my mom via cell phone, she had lost 15-18 trees...anywhere from 8 foot in diameter to much smaller.
One had fallen near or on the front porch of the house. She had lost an incredibly big oak tree as well. Some of these also were 100+ foot tall pine trees. These are trees that survived hurricane Camille in 1969, but did not make it through this particular storm. She said they were getting 100+ mph winds, with gusts even higher. It was funny, she was talking to me in a truck under a carport that was shaking from the winds blowing. The local officials were saying the back part of the storm was going to be worse than the front part...so I am not looking forward to hearing the damage reports, just hoping to reach them soon and hear they are okay.

And also, my real dad lives in a mobile home...God I hope he got out! I can't reach him either.

If ya believe in prayer...mind throwing one in for my family?

Thanks,
Chad

My prayers are with your family, Shorty.

Sure thing! I hope everyone makes it out OK and that the property damage isn't too severe. My close relatives evacuated, so I know they are OK. Nothing worse than not knowing and having to worry about it....

Our prayers go out to you and Yours too buddy, and hope all is well with them. I'll keep My eye out in the news for info on that area. Most comunications are probably down, so hopefully, just having a hard time contacting You. Most of the damage that leveled places was near the coast, and sure flooding played atleast some part in that, so keep the faith man.

We had some huge old oaks go down here with that one we were on the right side of last year. One even lifted the slab in the back Of My house, because the roots went so far under It. had some serious roof damage on both houses We're still trying to repair. We had 2 last year that were minor compared to something like this, but were on the right side of that one, and what they say is true about the right side of one. It was'nt that strong of a storm, but would'nt have known that being on that right side, and on the coast. I have always stayed and rode them out, but that one made Me think what if It had been worse. Next time will be getting out of dodge.

My Dad was stationed in Miss. during Camille, and always told me how bad It was. He's says this is worse then It was like people are saying.

I hope all is well with them shorty, I will let you know if I see any info specific to that area. Greg

From what I can find so far, it doesn't look good for Mississippi and Louisiana. There are at least 54 dead in Mississippi (30 of them from one building) and there are no casualty estimates from Louisiana yet, but the Mayor of New Orleans said "There were bodies floating by in the water." I wasn't able to find any reports of casualties from the inland parts of Mississippi (Poplarville, Laurel, Hattiesburg), all of the casualties appear to be in coastal areas (Harrison County). Apparently St. Tammany Parish is underwater right now.

Don't know how accurate it was, but I saw a count in one county or city, and It was at around 80. There is alot more footage then can even be run at the same times. I saw some that did look really bad, and looked like whole cities were under water still. The flooding probably was the cause of many deaths. people were getting trapped in the trusses of their homes left and right, and had to be cut out of the roofs by boat. The choppers were dropping flairs on the spots, and people in boats were coming around and cutting them out.

Edit: I believe the county was called harrison county Miss., but don't quote me on that.

Yep. Harrison County is the Gulfport-Biloxi area...right on the beach. That's where the Casinos and big resort hotels are. Also, Keesler AFB is in Biloxi.

Some good sites...

Here is some newspaper sites with some good information...

This one also has links to other newspapers on the left.

The one I am watching in particular is the Hattiesburg American. I can't find squat about Marion County. That concerns me. Also, I am worried about my grandparents who live in Lamar County...they don't have many big trees, but my grandpa just had his pacemaker redone and I know he don't need all this stress.

Yeah Guys, they said in new orleans the water is still rising, and they don't know where it's coming from. They don't know if the levies were breeched, if It's seepage, or if the lake's spilling over. the flooding is so bad they can't get to the areas to find out why it's still rising. Said alot of people are sheltered in the french district, but if the waters keep rising It's going to flood there too, and Don't know where all the people will go.

I sincerely hope your family is safe and well Shorty. I heard on the news this morning that almost all the cell-phone and radio towers have been knocked down, which is why communications are so bad.

Hey Shorty

My prayers are with you and yours. I hope everything turns out OK with your family. If there is something I can do, let me know.
Don :(

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that's been affected by this horrible storm.

We can only hope that things aren't as bad as they look and that all people will come together to get everyone back on their feet as soon as possible.

I had the good fortune of meeting quite a few locals when I was there last November for TAP Nationals. I found myself thinking about them again this weekend as we played in our national qualifier, trying to win the trip again. I can only hope they all got out before it hit.

Hopefully, the country will dig in and send all the help it can to speed up the recovery process.

Good Luck and God Bless

Just to let everyone know!

I got an email from my pal Bill Schick last evening, so evidently he has power and electric, which is an accomplishment in itself.

I still have not heard word from my family...fingers crossed and prayers said.

Shorty,

Your family probably doesn't have phone service and possibly no electric...give it time....lots and lots of trees in Hattiesburg and cell towers are probably all out all over that area.My prayers are with them.
