Hey everyone.

Im new to posting on the board but I have been reading the posts for quite some time.

I have learned a lot from you all.

I am currently working on starting a game room.. not just pool but snooker, ping pong, darts, poker, checkers & chess, arcade or video games, shuffleboard, dominos, air hockey and foosball

Also looking to get a liquor license which will be a pain but im going to try .. if not right away then sometime in the near future.. also looking to put in a kitchen so I can provide good food for everyone. Because from what I have learned from you all is that you won?t make your profits off the tables. It will come more from drinks and food.

There is a pool hall closing its doors by me and I have the opportunity to buy all their tables. Total 18 9?Brunswick Crown IVs. I am not going to keep them at the location they are currently at because the lease is very high and there is not much room to expand and offer more services.

I have done my research and there is nothing around my area for miles and miles that will be offering what I am trying to do.

I was just looking for some friendly advice.

I am going to try to find a big enough space where I can have a public section for pool
And have a private area set off to the side for the PROs and tournamants.

Negatives about the competition:

? I have visited several pool halls in my area and most are run down and not clean.
? The equipment is not maintained
? The food consists of snacks, bottled drinks, candy, and microwavable products
? With little or no areas to eat.

its in the NJ area.. more up west by PA .. not much to do around there so i think it would go over well with the surrounding towns.

Then the stage is set, your competition has done nothing to prevent you from picking up their customers, by the way they've shown how to run their own business. If you do it right, you'll cause the downfall of other rooms in your area, as customers are only loyal to a certain extent to the rooms they're already going to.

I believe I can make it work because most of the bars around my area too are run down.

If you don’t take pride in your business and invest back into it then your gonna get the same thing out of it.. CRAP!!!!
My only concern right now is getting the funding for this.
If I am offering this many games and services to my customers I am going to need a lot of space to do it in.

Im working with a business consulting firm now to get my biz plan all ready for the banks. I believe in myself and I know I can make this work and cater to the public without taking away from the Pros.. everyone is happy!!!!

I just hope the banks or lenders can see my vision as well :/

You're going to find that the banks are going to look at this as a "Startup" business, and when they do, you're going to get the icy cold shoulder, unless you take out a home equity loan on your home. Don't own a home?...hmmmm...well.....got friends?

I would not get a full liquor license but a beer only license. This will make your place available to 21 and under and with all the games that you have, it will make up a decent % of your clients. Leagues will still also be willing to start teams out of your place if you have beer. Good luck!

Wonder why pool players think they have to drink to play pool or in pool leagues, I know its money for the rooms, but is it really worth all the extras, insurance etc and a chance that one fool could cost you everything you worked for ? I guess i`ve been lucky without it for almost 15 yrs in business.

Just dont know.

Think of bowlihg alleys and other recreation businesses, if you have a kitchen that serves meals age will not matter, just control. At least that is the case in most states.
