I know this might not fit here, but there is a new paypal alternative called serve which is backed by a name you know (American Express).

I hope some of the cue buyers/sellers on this site will embrace this service.

The service seems very straight forward and can also be setup with account limits to prevent fraud etc.

Without spending too much time searching the fine print for this info....What are the fees???

You pay only for transferring to a bank account. ATM fees do not apply if you use any of a long list of banks (all the major ones do).

It is cheaper than paypal.

American India Express as I call it is IMHO one of the companies who sent American Jobs off shore.

I dropped my American Express Gold Business Card I had over 25 years, when I got Customer Service in Calcutta:angry:, and asked the young women trying to help me, where she was located, because of her heavy accent.

She replied Calcutta, and I replied what State are you in, she said India:embarrassed2:. I said connect me with someone in the USA. She did, the person in the U.S.A. helped me, and at the end of the conversation I said now please close my account.

After the Account was Closed, and I got some BS Please comeback because you were our customer 25 years letter, I wrote the President of American Express, and said they should rename the company to: American India Express. Guess what I never got a reply.

Basically, if you use a bank account as a buyer, no fees. As a seller it's 2.9% plus $.30 per transaction, which I think, is less than paypal.

As a long time American Express cardholder, and assuming they provide the same level of service, this could be a very good alternative to paypal. I've been ripped off a few times using paypal and they've told me 'tough luck'. I've never had a dispute with a charge on my Amex that wasn't resolved in my favor.

The thing I noticed right off, I think it was #B, that they do not get involved in any disputes between the two parties. You have to deal with it yourself.

Major Negative, maybe that is because they customer service is in India. But also why dispute anything with Pay Pal when your best course of action is to go back to your credit card. I personally have nothing to do with Pay Pal, as the are part of E-bay, and E-bay IMHO is anti Second amendment rights. Can not ever sell a legal gun part, grips, etc. on that site the last time I checked.

That's not just an opinion, it's a fact. Not only can you not sell anything on E-bay that's gun related, you cannot use Pay Pal to pay for such items no matter who is selling them. The penalty for a seller who violates that rule is to have their account permanently closed.

Well I know PEZ Dispenser are OK, as they is what E-bay should have stuck too. E-bay will see non of my money, as they are Anti Second Amendment.

I have to ask Bruce....what did the person in the USA help you with that the lady in India couldn't?

I must say I find this post pretty lame and doesn't have much to do with what the op was talking about.......kind of like my response.;)

The person in India was not able to help, as I said, "heavy accent" and I honestly could not understand them.

One of the insurance company I use to use, it was Signa, or Aetna has some of their Customer Service Calls handle in the Phillipines.

American Companies use to employee Americans, guess my remarks about writting the President of American Express, and said they should rename the company to: American India Express. Say how I feel about American Express.

We can all thank Jack Welch who ran GE for starting "outsourcing".

You are incorrect sir! The largest customer service location for American Express is right here in the same city you live in. Right on 31st Ave and the 101.

They started using so many offshore resources about 6-8 years ago when Bush pushed through to allow corporations HUGE Tax Breaks for going Offshore.

Btw, American Express like many other of the Top Companies in the US use many different locations. Amex has employees in over 70 different companies.

It makes perfect sense that they don't want to get into the business of being involved in sales of guns. There are so many legal issues that could arise with trying to validate the sellers, the buyers, the shipping, etc. etc. Not worth the legal hassle....

That argument is specious. I know of no legal problems incurred by any of the web based firearms auction sites (e.g., Auction Arms, Guns America). That argument would not apply to PayPal in any case, nor does EBay use that argument as it might relate to EBay itself. According to Omidyar, EBay is just trying to protect its members from possibly accidentally violating some state's laws, and besides, Meg Whitman doesn't like the thought of some woman perhaps hurting some poor rapist with a gun she bought through EBay.

Quoting Pierre Omidyar from an interview by the Academy of Achievement:

Firearms, for example, we decided a while back, I think in '98, pretty early on to -- actually I'm not sure about the date frankly, but we decided to remove those from the site, to say, "You know what, eBay is no longer an appropriate venue to trade firearms." And the reason is that the regulations in all the states are so different and so varied that it was hard. It was very easy for a member to accidentally trip over a regulation, and we didn't want them to get into trouble, and at the same time, frankly, Meg's point of view was if somebody buys a gun on eBay and uses that to harm somebody, we don't actually want that. So in her mind she was uncomfortable with it, actually from the day she joined the company, so we got rid of that.

Some peeps in my industry that used to use PayPal are now finding other alternatives for exactly the same reasons expressed in this thread.

In one instance, an independent contractor was refunded an entire year's worth of work that she paid out, thanks to PayPal. The people she paid got ripped off, and Paypal allowed it to happen.

Some folks like Intuit which is only 50 cents per transaction. You can take credit cards as well with Intuit, and there is no monthly charge or setup. You can receive payments from anyone with an e-mail account.

Intuit is a product by the makers of QuickBook, Quicken, and TurboTax.

For 50 cents a transaction, this is "the" perfect solution to get paid for small businesses and vendors. Check it out: https://ipn.intuit.com/

Selling Alcohol, Owning a business that sells booze, or Cars will become a problem with legal issues, when Tort Lawyers start going after those who drive drunk and killing innocent victims.

Yeah, many different businesses have many different legal obligations, that doesn't mean that just because Ebay and Paypal let people sell pretty much anything, that they should HAVE to sell EVERYTHING. It's their business, if you don't like it, don't use it.

Selling a Car online doesn't have as much red-tape as does selling a gun, across state lines, county lines, etc. etc. A person with 10 DUI's can still purchase a car. Is Paypal going to do a full background check on every bidder of a gun purchase to make sure they can legally own a gun, or they are actually who they say they are, or it's getting delivered to the correct address, or, or, or....
