Well, at least we tried goofing around with an old game on a new surface in my basement. :)

My good pool buddy (aka Driven) and I, after finishing our weekly get together for playing 14.1 started fooling around with something that turned out to be fun and interesting.

The Italian court game of Bocce. The rules of which can be loosely applied to what we were doing on the pool table. (you can see them at the link below)

Anyway, we took the cue ball, placed it on the foot spot and then gave ourselves 5 balls each (stripes / solids to distinguish) having to shoot from behind the headstring, the object was to get as near to the cue ball with your balls as possible.

Billiards, caroms, three cushion shots were all coming into play. You can pocket your opponents ball and alleviate the possibility of that ball becoming a point, and as we played if you sink the cue ball the round is over and the person who sinks it get penalized 3 points.

The balls end up all over the place and who shoots last may have a slight advantage in the round, so we alternated first round shots.

You can play to whatever number you choose of course, but it is worth a try, it was fun, and we found there to be quite a bit of strategy, speed control and shooting knowledge needed to bump opponents balls away and keep yours close to the cue ball. A good game for a change up now and then. :)
