New pool table and need rug advice

Hello,

We are moving in a few weeks into a home that has laminate wood flooring and I am not sure what to do about putting a pool table in. The table is a 4x8 table and I was thinking about putting a rug down under it but I think I would need a pretty large rug to make it so when your shooting your feet won't be half on a rug and half off? The larger rugs are way out of my price range.

Would a smaller rug work and not get in the way or would it be better not to use a rug at all? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 4.5*9 foot run under my 4*8 table. You rarely even touch the rug with your feet at teh outside perimiter of the table essentially is outside fo the perimiter of the rug. In any event, it is no problem, in my opinion as my rug is rather thin.

You don't need a rug under the table but a rug is nice for making a stance.
Try four runners....you can get good deals on carpet strips.

The floor will be easier to clean without a rug. No need for one anyway.

Maybe you don't need a rug, Todd, but I do.
...I guess it depends on your stance.
I was at a tournament years ago...it was a ballroom with no carpeting...
...it was driving me crazy.
I don't drink soft drinks much, but I bought a Coke...kept spilling a little
bit beside my chair and rubbing my shoes in it.

The rest of the field caught on...dirtiest ballroom floor you ever saw.

I have been to a place that had a few tables next to a dance floor. It was a country western place and they threw sawdust all over the dance floor to make the two-stepping easier. Needless to say, there was sawdust all over the floor around the tables. Shooting pool was next to impossible without sliding everywhere. Oh Texas!

I just installed a 9' table and I put a 9'x12' wool under it and it looks great and the table fits great on it. I found the rug at a Pottery Barn outlet for $300. I will try to post some pics this week

Carpet tiles?

I wanted carpet, but since the table is in the basement laying carpet scared me. It was a little more expensive than I like, but the carpet tiles worked out pretty nice. If there was ever water in the basement I could peel them right up, they are friction back, so no glue.

THAT is perfect....forgot about carpet tiles.
...easy to replace...and the table is solid.
