New pool training app just launched

I am enjoying your app!

My rating is currently 2233.

One thing that I have noted is that some of the scenarios do not work so well on 7ft tables.
Nice to hear you're enjoying the app - and your rating is quite impressive!

I know what you mean about some drills not working as well on a 7ft table. Here’s why that happens and how it’ll get fixed:

Cueist was originally built for 9ft tables, but after our initial testing, table size quickly became the number one concern. To address this, we:
  • Redrew the positioning of drills for 7ft and 8ft tables
  • Recalculated difficulty ratings for each table size
This also meant that a single drill became three separate drills, each with its own rating based on table size.

We were careful to get the ratings as close to 'real' as possible, but some are still a little off.

The good news is that it will correct itself over time. Just like your rating adjusts after each drill, drill ratings also evolve based on player results. So if a drill’s rating is too high or too low, it will automatically correct itself as more people play it.

Since your rating is quite high, the drills you’re getting haven’t been played by many others (most people are rated lower than you). As a result, their ratings are still stabilizing. This will correct itself over time, but it might take a bit longer.

Hope that helps, and thanks for playing!

Oh yeah, I second the motion for safety scenarios.

Maybe I lack discipline, but I almost never set up safety shots in practice even though I know I should. To make matters worse, I play on my own probably 95 percent of the time, so there are absolutely no consequences for selling out.
I agree with you 100% - adding safety shots is the next thing we plan to do.

It will take some time, so please be patient. Since Cueist is designed for players of all skill levels, we’ll need to include a wide range of safety shots - from beginner-friendly options to the ones that even pro players find challenging. And of course, safety play is incredibly varied, so we’ll have to cover a lot of different scenarios.

It’s going to be a big undertaking, but I’m really excited about it. I think it’ll add a lot to the app.

While over all I am enjoying the app These are the shots on here I take issue with because there is no point in practicing it lol I’m a strong amateur player and I would never shoot this shot. Ever ! This is safe all day to me. Lol this is the kind of shots I watch the dumb dumb bar bangers shoot.. miss it 99% of the time.. and leave me the run out. I’m just not a guy that shoots low percentage shots so I wish I could just skip this nonsense. It’s a shot that will bring down your overall score but there is no purpose in shooting it to me.

I totally get what you’re saying.

This shot probably has a rating that’s too low right now. As I mentioned in a previous post (today, so you won’t have to look far), some shots still have inaccurate ratings because the app is new and not enough players have seen them yet. As more people get this shot, its rating will adjust and eventually settle at a level where only top pros will see it.

As for shooting this in a game… yeah, it’s a sellout. But most of the shots in the app are ones where a safety should at least be considered. If you keep firing at one 50% shot after another in a match, you won’t win many. That said, tough shots like this can be valuable for practice - they help develop your overall ability much faster than just working on 90% or 10% shots.

I get the frustration, but rest assured, this will self-correct as more players use the app.
Appreciate the feedback!

I didn’t get any email from you, so I’ll just answer here in case it helps others as well.

Once you finish the initial skill test, you’ll have access to the standard app interface. Until then, everything is pretty guided - during the test, we introduce you to the app and explain how it works.

Once you reach the main interface, you can log out by going to the 'Profile' section under ‘More'. This takes you back to the start page, where you can log in with a different account.

During the test, logging out isn’t possible. If you start the test and then decide midway to restart it or log in with an existing account, there’s no direct way to do that. However, there is a workaround:
  1. Close the app.
  2. Turn on airplane mode.
  3. Reopen the app.
  4. You’ll see a message saying there’s no internet connection. Tap 'Try again' twice.
  5. Another message will appear: 'It's still not working. If you want, you can log out.' Tap the 'Log out' button.
  6. Close the app, turn the internet back on, then reopen the app.
Now you’ll be back at the starting screen, where you can log in with your account.

I know this is a bit complicated, but it’s not something most people will ever need. Hope that helps!

I have logged ~1,800 shots and rating is at 1838. I have noticed that the really thin cuts have dropped out of the rotation. It switched to heavy rotation of position shots. I think this is because my position rating is a good bit lower than my aiming rating. Still enjoying the app...just wish I had more time to spend with it...By the way, I got 3rd in a local tournament last weekend. Previously, I considered myself dead money (often 2 and out). I can't say that it is all due to the app but I have focused 100% of my training on the app since late March...THANKS!!!

That’s awesome to hear! Congrats on the tournament finish!

I love reading posts like this - helping players make real progress through guided practice is exactly why Cueist was built. So hearing that it’s working for someone really makes my day. I hope you keep improving and that your tournament results continue to climb.

Also, you're absolutely right about how the app shifts drill types based on your strengths and weaknesses. If your aiming is ahead of your position play, it'll start mixing in more positional drills to help that part of your game catch up—so it’s adapting as intended.

Thanks again for sharing. Keep at it, and I’d love to hear how things are going down the road.

Quick note for those using our training app: we’ve fixed a bug that affected some users - specifically, those who couldn’t see their results after finishing the Aiming section of the skill test. If you were one of them, your rating should now display correctly, and you’ll be able to move on to the Positional test.

(The fix has been in place for a little while, but we wanted to make sure it was holding up before posting.)

Thanks again to everyone who reported the issue, and apologies to those who were affected. We appreciate your patience!
