I played in a bar-table 8-ball tournament yesterday, and after finishing the main tournament, everyone was automatically entered into a 2nd tournament, playing a game called "spot-on."
It was an interesting cue ball control training game. They had the loser of the lag place three round "spots", of three different diameters, strategically on the table. The game was 8-ball, but the object of the game was to land the cue ball on one of the spots after making your ball, which gave you points of 1, 3, or 5, deepending on the diameter of the spot landed on. It was a different game than 8-ball, but fun to play, once learning the strategy.
