Right now I play with "Pechauer Custom 3" cue with 314-2 shaft. For some months back I have been reading about Mezz WD700 and Hybrid Pro II shafts, C$sh shafts and SPTX shaft as being on par with pred at LD field and much better than Pred shafts mainly in terms of feel but I had no opportunity to try it out. Finally few days ago I had an opportunity to shoot with Mezz with WD700 shaft on it. OMG, this shaft is SO good, it has slightly lower deflection than my 314-2 and mainly the feel and power of WD700 is totally different animal than 314-2. I fell in love with it instantly! :grin: Now here is where the story becomes complicated. I found out that my Pechauer has modified 5/16 14 joint, so called "Pechauer 317 speed joint" and i cant find a store which sells mezz shafts with this joint. Is there a one? Also I have been told by one guy who sells Mezz shafts that there can be done modification on 5/16 14 joint of my pechauer/thread of shaft by cuemaker which could do the trick. Unfortunatelly there are no cuemakers where I live and to be honest I am not sure if this modification wont change characteristics of the shaft (I dont want to change my pechauer as I want to keep my 314-2 as a backup shaft). Is it save to do such modification on shaft if done by credible cuemaker or is it no-no? Also I became interested in SPTX shaft made by Mike Gulyassy which was my "subject of investigation" for few weeks back. When I asked MG about comparison of SPTX shaft with 314-2 he replied that his shaft "has more feel, more power and very little deflection. It is in
its own category and you can get it in any size you would like." While MG has definitely high credit among billiard community the fact I tested Mezz shaft and LOVED it makes me biased to the WD700, that is IF I am able to get it for my Pechauer.
