New shaft problems

I ordered a shaft from one of the popular LD shaft makers and when it came I noticed a rough spot (i'll let them try to make good on it before I mention names). I later found that it was a splinter that broke loose (more like a small sliver). I put on a glove and could feel three or four more snagging on my gloves, and a few stuck in the glove Anyone have this problem before?

The next problem came after I checked for straightness. Slight wobble by itself (might have been illusion), but major wobble when screwed onto my cue. The shaft's joing doesnt appear centered. For a performance shaft of the Predator, OB and Universal quality, it seemed like an awful lot to be wrong with one that was shipped straight from the factory/warehouse. I'm going to send it back and try another (hits great BTW), but I don't know what to expect now.

The splinter thing is weird - is the shaft laminated? It seems to me a laminated shaft would be more subject to this sort of thing if it wasn't finished and sealed properly.

When I order LD shafts I order partials and have them fit to my cue by a cue guy. That's the only way I can be sure they will be aligned properly and have the right fit to my radial joint.

The total cost is usually the same or even less than a finished shaft. My cue guys charge $50 to fit a radial partial with a plain black ring and a phenolic insert - and they do a perfect job.

Sounds like a good plan

I should probably do that in the future. The shaft does have a raw wood type feel to it, more so than the predator 314 I've been used too. My first thought was that it wasn't sealed properly either. I've heard good things about the customer service, so hopefully it's just a one time glitch.
