Playing 46 yrs. w/ ENGLISH on every shot, mostly w/ a Brunswick bar cue made into a 2 pc. Recently bought a slighty used 2nd. gen 5/16 x 14 joint Balabuschka w/ a 1st. gen 314. The 314 is great for a beginner but I'm an old dog. Any non affiliated suggestions for a shaft between the 2 for taper, tip size & deflection. The 314 is too thin & moves the cue ball too much to the english side (for me) on long shots but i love the spin on short 1/2 table shots.

I have a cue with the same joint. Do you want to sell the 314? If so, how much?

Use less english, use same shaft... Having a wider range of spin ability on shots is a good thing. Why seek out a cue that will limit your range of available english?

I'm not looking to limit English, the right stroke can always get enough english. I'm looking to obtain a medium of deflection to make the long full table shots more consistant & predictable, for me, an old dog w/ 46 yrs. of squirt experience to unlearn for a new high tech shaft. It's very hard to shoot really well when U don"t have confidence that U'r aiming right for the shaft U'r using. I don't want to use 2 cues, 1 for short shots & one for long shots. I need a happy medium in one shaft.

A good custom cue with a solid hit will typically have less deflection then, say,a Meucci but more deflection then a Pred or other laminated shaft. You can prob get whatever taper you prefer.

Imo zero deflection is the best, learn it and stick with it you old dog!
