There has been alot of new tips out in the last couple years. I just wanted to see what everyone has tried and what you thought.
I have yet to try the dudly tips (premade milk duds) yet. They will be my next ones. So what have you tried out lately? Chris.

love everest snipers

mooris and wizards are ok

hate kamui talisman

didnt like milk duds at all

wizard med is the best for the price. $4-5 each from fast_n_loose. hard to beat them

Sniper gets my vote!

I used LePro's for years (mainly because I'm cheap) and never thought the the "expensive" tips could make "that" much difference. Then I tried a Sniper. I couldn't believe the difference. I get so much more "feel" than I did with the LePro's. I may experiment with other "premium" tips in the future , but, for now, I'm sold on Sniper!

I have been using Med Wizards lately and really like them. I do like sniper as well but I prefer them on my cues that are around 12mm or less.

Chris the Wizard Medium and Hard tips are the best new tips I have found over the last three years. As most know I own and operate a Pool Hall, retail store, and a cue repair section / conversion cue building shop.
I normally do around 50 to 100 tips per month, and I have almost every tip made in stock.

To date everyone likes to compare tips to Moori's, when a new tip comes out, which is because they are the best tip hands down. I have been selling Wizard Tips to my Customers for around a year, I buy them directly from the supplier for US Sales which is J&J America. These tips are the only other tip I have found that truly cut, shape and play like a Moori, and the best part is that they cost allot less money.

I have all levels of players using these tips and to date I have had no complaints, people really like them.

Hope this helps

I agree that Mooris were the best tip available about 10 years ago but there are a number of tips I like better now. I still compare tips to the Mooris just because many know how they play. I say I like this tip a little more than a Moori or this one a lot more than a Moori and so on.

I have been using H2 Hercules tips, the pre domed ones. They are great. I have also been using Black Diamond tips as well. They play equally as good , just a little softer than the H2.
I use super pro tips on my break cues with canvas phenolic ferrules and have had great feedback and results. Much better than phenolic tips IMO due to their ability to hold chalk. Really like that combo for breakers.
Everest tips are good as well, hold shape well and chalk. I do prefer the H2 over all of these due to their performance and durability.
Hope this helps ya Chris,

i recently switched from the everest tip from tiger to the wizard hard and i will not be going back to the everest any time soon. great tip and great price.

also i went with a wengler tip from mueller's on my j/b cue and i must say im very impressed by it. it jumps like phenolic but holds chalk like a leather tip. the material has pits and valleys in to help hold the chalk better than most other hard jump tips. i found it very easy to adjust from a leather tip to this for breaking and it still lets loose on the jump like g-10 or phenolic.

heres a link to the wengler tip from mueller's

Another vote for the Wizard M's. Everyone that I've talked into trying them comes back to tell me how much they like them. I just hope they don't come out with a new version and ruin them like so many others have done before.

I just installed some wizards the other night but I have yet to hit with one. It did machine nice. I now mostly stock the usual tips and try to have a couple of this and that on hand but, in denver I would say most of my requests are for 60% lepros, 20%triangles, 10%moori, and 10% everything else. Most of the everything else tips the customers bring their tip to me to install. Otherwise they mostly just ask me to order one for them on my next component order.
Years ago I tried to stock everything under the sun so I would have it on hand. I had alot of tips sitting in the shop for years. As I gradually sold them off I did not replace them.
I now mostly stock.
lepro
triangle
elk master
blueknight
royal oak
superpro
moori
kamui
black diamond
blackjack
instroke
and about 10 assorted others
I am starting to expirment with some of the new tips out in the last year or so but have not done much with them yet. I did try the samsara break tips and they were very good. I have yet to get a request for one yet though. Chris.

Chris,
How does the samsara break tip compare to the super pro's hardness wise? Do you prefer one over the other for a J/B? I use to take a water buffalo and cut it down pretty thin for those that wanted a super hard leather tip. Now I have started putting on Super Pro's and have had positive feedback on those. I like the price on the super pro's, but I've been thinking about trying a samsara, Thanks.

This is a drastic change. The Everest is very soft, and if you like soft tips, you can't go wrong with the Everest. Much less shrooming than a non-layered tip (Elk Master) and it holds chalk and grips the cue ball like nobody's business!

Sniper is firmer than the Everest, a medium IMO, and will appeal to more players.

from what ive gathered the sniper is actually the softer of the 2. im not saying that the everest tip is bad. i like the feel very much. but for me i wanted to try something different so i switched to a harder tip. just my .02:smile:

I have only put one on so far. It seemed harder but it still holds chalk quite well. Fortunately I have been VERY buisy in the cue shop this last year so have not been playing hardly at all. I am heading out to DCC tomorow and look forward to embarasing myself when I finally get to play pool for the first time in a while. Chris.

I apologize for

sticking my nose in this section, as I am not a real cue maker (yet!)

I have been experimenting with tips.

In the past three to four months, I have made my own milk duds and even some made from Triangles.

I traditionally always loved Triangles. I believe they are one of the best tips made right out of the box. I always loved that hard, crisp hit with the ability to 'bite' the cue ball.

I had Snipers on a radial pin cue I played with for a while. On this cue, I had an ivory ferrule and a non, both with Snipers on it. I personally didn't like the tip because I felt like it it absorbed too much of the impact and also 'changed' in the way it hit cause it got harder and harder.

I played with a Moori on a new Mezz ZZ-09 and it was a good tip. It did mushroom a little and it also seemed to harden undesirably.

I then went to Milk Duds and though I finally found my 'magic tip' They are consistently the best tip out there with the most feel, but they are a softer tip.

I played with Super pros for a while and they are good, but too hard. Should be used for breaking. I put on on my flat faced radial pin and it was ok, but wasn't on my 14 thread ss joint.

I also tried Wizard and they are bad to the bone. Nice, med/hard tip and consistent.

I have tried the sharp shooter tip from Ebay's Bob Moss. It was so so. I also ordered a Black Diamond and I thought it was so so.

I think Talisman is not consistently good. I tried an Extra Hard and it felt like a medium.

The Triumph is believe it or not a surprisingly good tip. It feels just like a Triangle to me with a little less bite.

Now, I play with the Hercules 23 layer pigskin med/hard extra deluxe from the Cue Component's website. They are 19.99 for 25. This is the tip for me. It is nice and hard, crisp and also bites the cue ball like a shark. I also ordered the water buffalo Hercules and I am not impressed. I think they are a 'cheap tip'. The Hercules pigskin I play with hits crisp and feels hard, but also has a property that lets you 'feel' your shot. I have noticed they are maintenance free as they are the same the entire time they are on your cue.

I have also tried Everest and I like them as well. I think they're hard and I think they play better than sniper. The regular Tiger med tip is about the same. To me, Tiger tips are good, but are expensive and occasionally, you will find a tip with a pocket of air between the layers and for that price, this is unforgivable.

I'm sticking with my Hercules for now. If I wasn't using them, Wizards would be my next choice.

Hope this helps.
