New vs. used table

Hi guys. I'm buying my first table, an eight-footer. I have high standards on the table itself: not so much the appearance, but the rails, felt and overall playing surface should be near top-notch.

craigslist has tons of used tables in the $250 - $500 range. Generally speaking, after paying for tear-down, move, installation, etc. am I better off buying a new one?

You can get more for your money if you buy a used name brand table but I think you need to spend at least a $1,000 or more .

You should have no problem buying a used table and still pay someone to get it for you etc. while saving at least 50% over a new table in total, plus you won't pay tax on the table. If your willing to look and wait you can get them for free.

Many of the tables on the Chicago Craigs List in that price range are junky or should I say Not top-notch.
If you shop around for a name-brand used table you can expect better manufactured quality and save over buying new.

Here's a few you may have seen that would appear to be a good buy.

Trex,

Looks like you have pretty nice tables in your area for pretty reasonable monies. The GC III for $1100 is a great deal! You will never be unhappy with one of the best.

Rick,

It was called a monarch, but far from the original one! lol

craigslist

Craigslist is the best if you are willing to really hunt for a deal. I just picked up a 9ft Diamond Pro Cherry Wood in mint condition with matching light cue holder six cues two sets of balls and a sardo for 2K. Figure in going to pick it up and new cloth and you are still looking at Thousands of dollars off the price of a new one.

Are there any problems with buying a used diamond pro am? i've seen a few here for sale. and they've been taken apart. but i'm wondering if there's any forseen problems with buying a used one. Other than the normal damages to the skirts. More like damage from improper storage or dissassembly.
