I would say Queens is the best for players-Lots of pool rooms with reasonable prices for NY. There is one place that has a $50 month charge to play all you want. It may be limited to playing alone-not sure. I also cant remember the name sorry. Master's on Queens Blvd has 2 tournies per week that attract NY's best and any visiting road player or Filipino.

Amstedam in Manhattan is probably the nicest but a little costly and its tough to get a table after 6PM on any day. Broadway Billiards is a bit 'downscale' but some people love it and quite reasonable.

So id say start with Amsterdam and Masters and ask around about other places. Skyline in Bklyn is another Players room.

Overall NY is not the greatest pool town. The glory days are gone.

I don't know about $50 in NYC, but in Parsippany at Comet Billiards they have a practice program like that. Parippany is about 45 minutes outside of the city, New Jersey.
You can practice by yourself all you want for the month for a flat fee. If you play with another person in the program you pay 1/2 price.

Manhattan: Amsterdam Billiard Club

Queens: Master Billiards

Brooklyn: Skyline Billiard club

Going to have to agree here, Amsterdam is a nice place to shoot in the city if you are going to be uptown, but if you in the villiage area, try Soho Billiards.

As for Queens, I definitely have to agree that Masters is a good place for action. But keep in mind, there are tons of pool halls in queens, I think there are 4 pool halls within a 3 block radius in Flushing. Carom, 4 x 4, and 2 even tinier places I can remember the name to. Cue Bar in Bayside is a nice spot to shoot.

Brooklyn - Skyline Billiards is definitely a hot action spot.

I cant think of many in Long Island or Staten. So I think you'll be cool if you stick to the abover mentioned spots.

If you hit up Soho, you might as well give Broadway Billiards (10 E. 21st St, NY NY) a shot. Table time is $5 during the week, and $6/hr on weekends. They're also open 24-hours, and have some tight pocket tables if that's your thing.

SoHo has the potential to be a good room, but I find too much of their equipment isn't taken care of. Once you add in all those windows along the south and east-facing walls, it ends up not being the room it could be when the sun comes in and the rails cast 2-foot long shadows on the felt.

AmsterCorner isn't really "uptown", it's pretty close to the Village. IMO, SoHo (on Houston) doesnt have the best playing conditions.

I think SJM gave the best choices. It seems like, when most ppl move to NYC, they wind up in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan.

Amsterdam is up near 75th st isn't it? In the 70's I'm sure.

The diner across the street has an awesome breakfast.

Amsterdam has consolidated their 2 east and westside poolhalls and have gone way downtown. Sorry to break it to ya~

Correct. They're just south of Union Square now, on the corner of E 11th St & 4th Ave

Kaznj,

I sometimes take the bus or subway to get from Broadway Billiards to Amsterdam because I'm too lazy to walk, so Comet in Parsippany is really way out for me.

Thanks for letting me know. I wonder what other poolhall deals are out there.

Nostroke,

Thanks, I found them on Google, so I'm going to either go down and visit the place myself or give them a call. Why so cheap, or maybe I'm used to Manhattan prices?

I dont know but they must want bodies in there. People attract people.

Call-Be sure to ask them if that is only playing alone if that is an issue-Im pretty sure it is. Bobby says the place isnt bad.
