New York City's Newest Poolroom - Society Billiards - Coming this Spring!

Apologies in advance if this is a little long, but I just have to give major props to Jude and Society Billiards.

I'm a captain of an APA 8-ball team. As many of you know, this can be a thankless task. My team had been shooting out of a divey place at 29th & 9th. The bar wasn't very supportive of the team, even when we brought home hardware, but it was a place to play. I had thought of moving the team, but inertia kept me from doing it.

The last straw came about a month ago. One of the owners was just in a bad mood, and he chose to take it out on me towards the end of the night. He went off on me literally for an hour, including while I was trying to take care of paperwork with the other team's captain. I had to sit there and take it because of the pool team. He later apologized and admitted he was out of line, but this was just too much.

I got permission from the LO to move my team mid-season, and Jude graciously welcomed us to Society Billiards. Talk about night and day. Strangely, when I told the other bar I was moving the team, they banned me from the place.

I got word out to the division's captains, who were all glad to learn of the switch. Well, all except for one. There's a new team in our division and I didn't have their contact info. They were playing at our place last night. I emailed the LO Sunday to ask him to let them know, or give me their contact info so I could let them know.

I never heard back from them. Tuesday night came, but the other team didn't. I tried to call my former bar, and they just hung up on me. We don't have a division rep, and when I called the other team's home bar, they didn't have any contact info, either.

Enter Jude. When he found out what was going on, he went on his own to get the other team. I didn't ask him to do this, I didn't even know he was doing it until he left. He found the other team and brought them back.

Anyway, thanks a million, Jude. You didn't have to do this, but it was super-cool that you did it. I owe you one.

P.S. The Society Billiards patch looks great on my cue case!

Thanks for the kind words, sir. Honestly though, it's no different than what anyone on the Society staff would do. As players, we recognize the complexities of the APA and as a business, we appreciate what each and every team has done for us. With all due respect, you owe me nothing.

This place is awesome. I love the way they managed to have a design that was both elegant, and comfortable. The arrangement is great on how every inch of this place was designed for pool players to feel comfortable shooting on ANY table they shoot on. No pillars, walls, or counters/chairs obstructing your shots from any side of the tables. They even have a bar leagues section with 3 diamond tables, knick-named "mini vegas", that's well thought out on its arrangement. Finally, a pool room run by players for players.

I want to see this place with you behind the counter in 25 yrs Jude. Buena Suerte!

I have no doubt. And it is this attitude and committment that leave me with no doubt that SB will be a great success.

On another note to the other posters, I've been taking advantage of the summertime special, free pool in "Mini-Vegas" on Friday nights. It's turning into a really cool scene. People from the different teams around the city hanging out in an environment where we're all just pool players, not adversaries (except on the table, of course!). This is a great environment and it's only gonna grow.

Any action or just funsies?
