Tell you what, since you're taking an SL-5 down to the 8-ball nearly everytime, after the break I'll take 5 of your balls off the table and we'll play for whatever amount you want :D :D :D :D :D .

Jim <---someone will explain this hustle....

Bah, you HACK!! I'll take all but ONE of his balls off the table, AND I'll let him shoot first! :D :D :D

In all seriousness, all the advice that has been given here is very good. STOP thinking in terms of "how many balls you made" and start thinking in terms of, "What gives me the best chance of winning here?".

Also, be VERY aware that league ratings are by-and-large, differentiations of beginner skill levels as is. There are shortstops (sub pro level players) who have been banned from league play for being too good.

If a league rates 8 ball players 2-7, then you can be assured that none of them except MAYBE the SL is going to win even up in even a short race against what all of us consider to be a "good" player. Simply too many gaps in knowledge, and execution. You should aim higher than league ratings. :D They are a decent measurement in the VERY short term, however.

To put it more simply: A great many of us on this board can ask you if you want to be left with 1 or 2 balls on the table (letting you pick the number), and then, beat you by EXACTLY that number, more often than not. These same players can offer you a spot where you win if you make a ball legally in 8 ball, and WIN. How do you measure your skill against someone like that?

You can't, and you shouldn't try. Just practice, and get with a good player who will show you the proper way to play and think the game. Good luck.
