Can you jump in APA? we just started APA in Abilene TX

....Now, I'm in N. Myrtle Beach and the APA Handbook states you can jump with a FULL cue, it has to be your player or the break cue you have been breaking with from the first match. Our By-Laws say the same. You should check your By-laws first though. We can not break down a cue to jump and the cue has to be a minimum of 54 inches or something like that. It has to be a legal jump, no scoopage!:grin: Ron
Yes you can jump. But you have to use the cue with which you shoot majority of your shots, and you cannot alter it. In other words, you gotta use your playing cue and you can't break it down.
I've asked the question, "What if I play the rack with a break cue?" I haven't gotten a straight answer. Technically, there's no rule against using your break or jump cue so long as you use it for the rest of the rack.

I know a guy that made a short break cue and uses it to jump with.
In the APA league I played in, if you wanted to make a jump shot , you had to use the playing cue. If you want to use the break cue, you would have to use that cue for the continuation of the match after the break.
Not many did jump shots,and those that did , not often made the shot anyway.

The rule in my area (unsure if this is in the nation-wide rules) is that you have to play all shots, except the break, with the same cue. Also if that cue breaks down, you're not allowed to break it down. So if you can jump with your player, you can jump. Otherwise you're out of luck.
