Vagabond,

Is this the same informant that gave you a heads up that Lil John was gonna be in action in AZ when in fact John wasn't even in that state??

Hi Landshark,
I am really surprised at your memory and your attention to the issues.News regarding Lil John`s match with Scott was not completely false and actually there was some smoke and I am not at liberty to talk on the subject.
With regards Siegal VS L.Jones, I learned it , during my visit to Greenville,South Carolina yesterday, from some one who is well connected. At present I am living in Ashville,NC,a fabulous city with fine food, side walk cafe`s and night spots and Greenville is only an hour and fifteen minutes drive.
PS:Next time I am going to watch what I say.

I heard it was going to be Sigel vs. Allison Fisher...
She 's got no shot either, but at least she can compete.

Yeah, Loree Jons high run of 64 will do real well against Sigels high run of about 500.

Before we dismiss the abilities of women straight pool players like this, I suggest we take a slightly closer look.

Me and the many others that attended the many Women's 14.1 championships in the olden days will recall that the standard match length for a women's straight pool match was 75 points, and that only the final was played to 100. Hence, in competition, it was extremely rare that a woman was afforded a chance to run over 75 balls. There were few women's straight pool events, too.

Speaking from my own experiece alone, Jeanette Lee ran 152 against me and also ran a 124 against Mika Immonen in my presence. In the 1999 Straight Pool Championhips event held at the Amsterdam Billiard club, Lee finished ninth in an elite field of men, and her victims list included Dallas West, Jim Fusco and Johnny Ervolino.

Obviously, no woman ever played straight pool like the most elite men, but I feel you've posted a statistic that is misleading with regard to the relative proficiency of the top women and the top men in straight pool.

Loree has a bar stools & billiards type of place in Greenville just around the corner from Jimmy Hodge's Gametime. Greenville isn't a bad place... quite a few good players there & Spartanburg too. There's usually action to be found in the area. Nothing like it was back in the early 90's but all good things must come to an end. Did you just move to Asheville? It's a beautiful area... be sure to go check out the Biltmore House if you haven't already.

I am not dismissing women's ability. I just don't think it is fair to the other women to put Loree Jon in the box in this match. She is currently ranked 62 on the WPBA Tour. Why not put someone in that attracts more media attention and is a better player?

So what, the men only went to 150...
Mike Eufemia ran how many?
Willie Mosconi ran 526,
Thorsten Hohman ran ?
Ralf Soquet ran how many?
Tony Robles ran how many?
Ginky ran how many?
Steve Lipsky ran how many?
Danny Barouty ran how many?...
The list goes on and on.
How many women have run over a hundred balls? Two?

I was there too. Jeanette Lee's presence at the table is different than Loree Jons, which is who we are talking about. I think if Jeanette Lee were to play Sigel, that would be great for the game. Jeanette has probably brought more spotlight on pool than any other player in history.

Really,,,there are hundreds of men, if not thousands that can run 100 balls. How many women can run 30?
I am not being a chauvanist here, just a realist.

You definitely are being a realist. I just felt that posting that Sigel's high run was eight times that of LJ Jones gave a somewhat midleading picture, as the women rarely played straight pool and generally played only races to 75 when they competed. The statement that there's a big gap is, of course, true.

Actually, we're much closer to being on the same page than you think. I also would give LJ no shot at beating Mike, and agree that I'd rather watch one of the elite women of today (Fisher, Corr, Lee, etc.) try their luck with Sigel. Though Lee was injured at the time and did not play, do you remember how many balls Allison Fisher missed in the race to 100 final of the 2000 US Open straight pool event? The answer, in fact, is zero.

I'm new to pool. What colour is the zero?

wierd.why not lee. it makes more sense.
Not to be disrespectful, but why Lee?? I know she is the most recognized name/ face in pool, but everyone is dissin' Loree Jon Jones because of her ranking on the WPBA tour. A tour in which she doesn't play on fulltime, thus LARGELY contributing to her low ranking. On the other hand, Jeanette Lee is a full time player on tour and she is still not the number one player in the WPBA. If the argument is the female counterpart of this action needs to be number one then why is Allison Fisher the number one contender...she is #1 in the WPBA or how about Gy Young Kim...she is #1 in the world?? Obviously Loree Jon Jones was asked for a reason to participate in this action, and be damn strait that I am behind her 100%. JMHO.

Hi Timberly,
I am a gypsy and I moved to Ashville 2 weeks ago only to live here for 4 weeks. I was living in Mississippi before. Before living in Mississippi I lived in North Carolina in several places. From here I will be going to Tennessee to live there for 2 or 3 years.Three years ago I took membership in Jimmy Hodges place and my membership expired. I was told that Earl Strickland has been going there to hit some balls. I am aware that Nicki Benish Hollingsworth ( WPBA`s Ex Touring pro) is from Simpsonville. By the way where in South Carolina u are from, if I may ask u? Cheers

Interesting question, but I don't actually know the answer.

The ones I know of are Ruth McGuinness, Dorothy Wise, Jean Balukas, Jeanette Lee, Gerda Hofstatter, Line Kjorsvik, and Jasmin Ouschan, so it's at least seven. I believe Ouschan first did it as a fourteeen year old in 2001.

Hopefully this goes through, that is some considerable money being put up. If there is chance of there being several of these held, then there will be other matchup possibilities.

I thought the memberships were lifetime @ Jimmy's place? I know when he had cue time in Mauldin it was a lifetime membership... mine transferred over when he opened up Game Time.

Earl does practice at Jimmy's from what I understand as does Nikki. You should head down there this evening... they have a decent little 9 ball handicap tourney that draws some good players. Nikki will probably be there.

I grew up in Greenville. ;)

How about these people with the $100K sponsoring the pro tours or at least sponsoring a player? This would be much more entertaining if it was Keith McCready Vs Kid Delicious for a $100K purse. (IMO).

I agree. This money could be much better spent supporting the pro tours.

skippy

Hey Vagabond,

Rich @ Loree Jon's must have clued you in. Did he bend your ear for hours about Cogs, Searings, and all other custom cues? He can talk your head off, but nobody loves to talk about cues more than that guy does :D

I think most of the action now is over at the Golden Cue on Wade Hampton Blvd. If you head that way to gamble, PM me. I'll clue you in on who some of the players are.

Mike

I agree and more to the point, it would be going to someone more deserving IMHO. Why give a $100K bone to someone who 1) doesn't need it, 2) wouldn't appreciate it, 3) who's only interested in playing if he has the absolute NUTS!
There are plenty of great players out there who are struggling to survive. Let Danny DiLiberto play a match for those stakes, or one of the other aging players who's life could really be enrichened instead of a guy who demands $25 for his autograph.

just more hot air!
