Nice Alex Pagulayan Story

Interesting podcast with Michael Coltrain. For those Alex P fans (looking at you @pt109 ), Coltrain speaks very highly of him and his game. Sounds like they locked horns a few times and Alex left quite an impression.

Alex P part starts at 32 minutes.
I’ve known Alex since he was 15….took him to the Canadian jnr 9-ball championship when he was 16….he robbed it. Took him to the BCA JUNIORS same year…5/6….turned him loose in Mary Kenniston’s room for the week playing $100 sets, race to 9….batted 1,000 for the whole week…continuously in action. He never seemed to have that stage where he had a lot to learn…he just needed older muscles.

It is one thing to have a lot of confidence in yourself. it is an entirely elite level in sports when a truly elite player can maintain that super high confidence level on every single execution. I think that Alex displays this rare ability. Think of times that you miss a shot that is one you believe that you should have made without too much difficulty. Even if the obvious reason for the miss was a poor stroke, a rushed stroke, a mis alignment- whatever- I usually , if I really think about it afterwards- admit to myself that there was a brief moment of doubt that crept into my mind just prior to the execution phase.

I think that a big part of the mental side of pool is working on not letting that doubt creep in, especially where it can sneak up on you in the midst of generally excellent play.
