Nice Andy Gilbert for Sale

OK Folks, I gave Andy's cues a try, and I just can't get used to the shaft taper. Take a look at this Gilbert I have for sale. I bought the cue from Cue Addicts about 3 weeks ago, so Sean could also be PM'd for comment on this cue. There is still a description on their site. Here is the link. http://www.cueaddicts.com/gilbert3.htm It is the second cue down on the page.

There are a couple of things wrong with the description on their site. In the description, they say that it has 4 veneers (yellow/orange/red/purple) when it actually has 5 (yellow, orange, red maroon, purple). I am adding a closeup of the name and veneers in a separate pic. Their ad also says that it has ivory ferrules, but they are Andy's linen based ferrule material. I know it's a cliche, but the pics don't do the cue justice. It has a nice ebony forearm, and the 5 bloodwood points are awesome. The veneers give the points a fire (almost demonic) look. It's a unique looking cue. I love the cue, but Andy's taper gets too thick a little too quickly for my taste. The joint is ivory, and the hit on the cue is great. Cueaddicts had it listed on their site for $960 which I think is list from Andy. I played with the cue about a week before I figured out that I could not get used to the shaft taper. I have had the cue put up since then.

I'm having other pics taken this week. I'll post them as soon as I can. I'm asking $825.

I would be intrested in trades. Whacha got????????

I'd like something a little lower end and a little to boot. I seem to do better with plain janes. Any interesting trade offers considered.

Price drop to $750. This is a practically new, $1000 Gilbert. Hopefully someone will take me up on it. If not, I'm headed to Ebay.

I should have the other pics by the end of the week.

Instead of selling a great cue, why don't you have the shafts modified until you get them the way you want them?

Sent a PM -> re: a classic designed BCM, two shafts, nice ring work, not too fancy. Meets your description of "a little lower end" (and I'll make up the difference in $ or M&Ms).

gilbert pics for Mike

All, here are the scans of the prong and butt sleeve sections. We had deleted the links to the high-res off the site already. This is really a great looking cue...one of those darker cues that just don't scan well. Has to be seen and held to really appreciate its look.

It should be signed "Gilbert 05" as we picked it up just before the EXPO in March. The cue was designed by our site partner Jeff Horton.

Hey mike, does the cue have the 3 B taper????????? 3 budweiser taper!!!!!!!! The taper goes back 9 inches then 9 inches then 9 inches, someone should tell him about that 3 B taper. Its' a shame that he puts out shafts like that, even the material for ferrules isn't the best or right kind. He does great work but the shafts, you get the shaft. The Skunk.

Skunk,

Just to clarify things, you're posting your personal preferences about his shafts, right (with respect to shaft taper and ferrule material)? For people that don't know, he does have other tapers that can be done when ordering a cue, but his standard taper is a little meaty and does produce a hard hit.

We've sold many, many Gilbert cues and the majority of players who bought them seem to really like the hit of his standard taper shafts.....but as we all know, hit is "very subjective". Retapering them is a great option if the hit isn't exactly what you want. [you can always take meat off, but you can't put it back]

Also, the ferrule material can't be too bad...as many cuemakers including South West uses it.

P.S. I'm not attacking your 'opinion' at all, so please don't take this reply that way. Just sounded a little harsh and thought it warranted some kind of reply with 'my opinion'.

Sean,

You are correct in your assessment. I seem to be in the minority on the shaft taper. Everyone that I have talked to loves Andy's tapers. I have relatively small hands and fingers, so maybe that fact makes me prefer a longer taper. I would never say anything negatively about Andy's cues at all. I think they are great. And I may take yours and Ted's opinions and have the shafts re-tapered.

Thanks for all of you help adding the pics.

Mike
