As far as know Jerry's favourite wood was PauFerro aka bolivian rosewood.
Neverthless this is really nice cue.

Thanks

I appreciate that superman.

I think the reason that so few SW's are this light has to do with wood choices and such.

My original design to Laurie Franklin was gonna be right around 21 oz, I just couldn't do it. Laurie and I talked at length about woods that would work out to between 18.5 and under 19oz; when I picked out Alves and Ebony she got a little choked up about Jerry (I ordered this cue 12 years, 3 months ago) since she said that was a major favorite for him for a playing cue.

As mentioned previously, I would be more than happy to act as broker for this cue. A buyer will have no problems with Ivan, the cue is in excellent condition. Good luck with your sale Ivan.

I have played with this cue and besides the fact that it looks great up close, the cue is a phenominal player,
and the cue is in imaculate condition...dead straight.

If anyone is actually concerned about which wood was Jerry Franklin's favorite, call Laurie Franklin, ask her, and post the results of the conversation.
For someone looking for a very nice looking, great playing Southwest this is the real deal and Ivan is a great guy.

Peace

Ted

Monto P2,

Yeah, I had always heard that too up til Laurie and I talked about it.
Perhaps I misunderstood, and perhaps it's not a reference to his favorite singular wood, but rather the combination of Alves and Gaboon ebony together ...

What do I know anyway?

Thank you, irregardless.
Yes, the cue is VERY nice, it plays perfect ... seemingly to everyone but me.
On a side note the cue was un-hit 'til August 2009.

Thanks again,

Ivan

Doug,

Thanks for the kind words. Also, yes, if anyone has a hesitation just because I have no iTrader rating, then Doug has stated he'd broker the cue.

Doug, thanks for letting me check out those three cues you picked up recently, you are right about the "firme" hit of that Keith and the beauty of those Wheeler cues.

If anyone is actually concerned about which wood was Jerry Franklin's favorite, call Laurie Fanklin, ask her, and post the results of the conversation.

Ted,

Thanks for the kind words. I do my best...

It was good to see you up at Table Steaks when I was there a few weeks ago. I caught some kind of sinus cold that took more than a week to peak a fever.

The cue is certainly a player, whoever is looking for a solid-hitting SW will probably love it.

Thanks,

Ivan

I did -- in 1997. Her answer was that Jerry had three favorites: goncalo alves, pau ferro, and macassar ebony.

Thanks AtLarge for the info.
That's what I've heard but without talking to Laurie Franklin myself I didn't want to say anything.

Southwest builds a great cue and this is a nice one.

AtLarge,

Thanks for helping to clarify. I ordered the cue around Thanksgiving 1997, so both answers fit on that timeline.
I appreciate you taking the time to post.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure I've ever seen a Southwest under 19. I'd say a fairly rare cue if only for that reason.

Balance point - PM

Chuck (and anyone else curious enough to know...),

The balance point is between 18-5/8 to 18-3/4 from the butt cap (add 1/4" from the bumper [18-7/8"-19"]).

Southwest is renowned for making exacting calculations for proper balance point (for those of you who have not played with their cues).

Here's a link here at AZ talking just a touch on the subject:

Other PM's ...

Seems that due to attachment restriction I chose to exclude close-up's on tips, ferrules and shafts.
I hope the following 3 pics help:

I can hardly believe I missed this one ...

The rarest SW cue is a FREE ONE! I have never been able to find one, but I'm still looking:wink:

"Keep lookin' sucka !!!"

J/K sly_shooter, but I couldn't pass that one up.
