14.1 to life
Over the last 46 years of playing pool, players come and go. I know for myself the way I kept them straight is to refer to them by their nickname. Here are some of the names and how they got their handle in the poolrooms.

1. Scarecrow John- his laugh and his build reminds of the scarecrow in Wizard of Oz
2. Scratchy John- pretty obvious, he was scratching nonstop.
3. "Go off John"- Would always lose all the money in his pocket when gambling
4. "Good Ed"- After missing a shot he would yell "good f--cking shot Ed"
5. "Bad Ed"- Always after "Good Ed's" money so we knew which Ed
6. "Psychology Ed"- always asking why he shot it that way or what was he thinking
7. "Go away Jesse"- always a pest so always asking him to go away.
8. "Porno Pete"- was know for selling porn VHS back in the day
9. "White Rags and "- old time hustlers who both shined shoes
10. "The Sweet Plum"- good player who was a plumber by trade
11. "Poker Paul or the Poke"- his stroke or lack of it
12. "Bucktooth"- legendary hustler, con man
13. "Detective Dave"- always asking questions about the money game, spot, score etc

Squirrel, Water Dog, Surfer Rod, Garlic Paul, Speedy, Stinky, Keither with the Ether,
Alabama, on and on.............

Who was your favorite character in the poolroom and how did he/she get the nickname??

"Roadrash" - Guy whose beard has a 1" bald spot from where his cue scrapes his chin.

"Sharktits" -- trailer trash with DDDs who wanders in from time to time nobody takes seriously at first. Once she gets in a position where she can swing the cue past her saggy milkers, is capable of clearing the table.Of course, nobody calls her sharktits to her (butter)face.

"Crazy Bobby" A-level shooter with F-level drinking tolerance and a short fuse - constant insanity. Bashed himself in the face with his cue after missing a shot and bled on the table in a local event.

"Charlie Foxtrot" - Name is Charlie and he does this bizarre thing where he shuffles his feet and wiggles when he gets down into the shot, like some old ragtime dance.

Heart Attack Jack

we had a guy called "Heart Attack Jack." I used to give him the three, five, seven, nine, and the breaks. Wild. He didn't play very well. So virtually every shot he would ride his money balls and if he slopped one in I would feign a heart attack and call for my nitro tabs while I clutched my chest. He could give you a heart attack the way he played. I would beat him out of twenty dollars every day. He was like playing for amusement until his wife added up that he was losing $600 a month to me. She put a stop to that. Ironically, Jack died of a heart attack a few years ago.

"Cobweb" Herbie...played so slow a spider began to spin a web over the pocket before He could decide how to hit the hanger. He takes 17-30 practice strokes. Binghamton, NY

"Three finger Tony" Lost the middle finger on each hand cutting live high voltage lines from a pole using bolt cutters. You had to watch him dealing cards too. Troy, NY

"Mike the Match" Did time upstate for Arson. Albany, NY

I got a rise out of your colleague Bob Jewett with "Bright Lights" Bob, after he beat SVB on the TV table at the straight pool tournament in Windsor Locks this spring.

Hi Bob>>> :-]

See you at Steinway next month!

Spot Shot Scott, he was worse at spot shots than Shaq at free throws
Tuesday Bob , he came in every Tuesday for 20 years.
He changed jobs and only came in on Saturdays, so we called him Saturday Bob for another 10 years .
He finally retired and we called him "Everyday Bob" until he went in the nursing home.
As soon as we find out he is gone, I guess we will call him "Dead Bob".

I laughed out loud reading this.
I don't do that very often.
"Cobweb' Herbie reminds me of some one pocket players I have seen.
