No 1 Pool Room in the Southeast

I mean I could say SharpShooters in Miami but I would be lying.

I like the owners of Sharpshooters and its a great room with great people, but Hollywood Billiards is a stronger pool room. More action, better tournaments and alot more players.

I honestly dont think Florida has the best pool room in the South East. Does Capones have alot of action? I tend to qualify a room depending on how many big $$ games go down in the room as well as their tournaments. I know alot of great players are resident there but does the room possess adequate backers that are the vital component to lots of action? Get great backers or loose money flowing like they are saying is going on in New Orleans right now, and thats the makings of a great room imo.

The Pool Room 2 is the nicest one I have been too. It's like they took a nice restaraunt and added a pool hall to it. The thing I like the most is the free refills on Sweet Teas and Cokes. And they have Waitress' bring it to you too. Well I also like how it is smoke free. And being smoke free that usually keeps your "grundgy" pool players out so it's a more relaxed atmosphere.

The hourly prices are good too. $5 an hour by yourself. $10 an hour 2+.

In the front tables you will generally never run into someone else on an adjasent table. I use to play strictly on Table 20 which is a Diamond tripple shim but they raised the price (Which I agreed with) to $12 an hour. But it's $12 an hour by yourself too and I can't afford that when I play for 3+ hours. And I almost always play by myself.

My only complaints (Minor complaints) are...
Price on Diamond tripple shim is the same for 1 person as 2. But the owner can do as he feels.
I feel only a few of the waitress' do a good job.
They don't have Budweiser on tap. (That's for me)
Table 1 and 19 have speakers facing right at the table loud enough to drown out a nuclear explosion.

But I'll go there as long as it is open.

Hi Smittie,

You can get 50% off if you are playing by yourself on the Diamond table. If you feel that you are not getting the service you deserve, come and tell Pete, GM or me. We are known for our good service and I would hate for one waitress to spoil that image.

Thank you for your comments. We will do our best to fix it.

Best regards,

John

Corner Pocket is packed every night but with workers from out of state. Not much pool action there. Cue and Cushion still services the office crowd in Elmwood. David G came over to play Jamie F some pool but it ended when Jamie had to close up shop.

MArdi Gras and Pool Players

Hi Timerly,
We have a couple of visiting guys/pool players down here right now. One can't play at all and the other's stroke belies his proficiency in pocketing balls. Eddie Brown knew one of them and the one with the big stroke said to Eddie in a loud voice so that everyone could here, "I know who you are and I sure ain't going to play you". I think he doeth protest too much.

Pool players like to come down to New Orleans for the Mardi Gras. They can come down here and party all day and all night and come pick up some extra cash at the local pool halls to boot.

I think this year's Mardi Gras may be smaller than all previous ones but it will still be a BIG PARTY.

the partying has already started and Mardi Gras is next Tuesday. This weekend kicks into high gear. I am kind of curious about how this one turns out. It is possible this may be the best ever possibly just because of the reduction in size. It may be that you can get around a lot better.

He's a TX boy... used to live in Dallas but now he's living in south TX and said he loves it down there.

Congrats on having the pool room to be at in your neighborhood Joey. I rememeber what it was like when people were coming from all over to my hometown... more action than you could shake a stick at and a railbirds dream!

Keep us posted on the happenings. :)

I would like to go to that pool room and Mr. Cues II one day.

The Pool Room in Marietta is second to none. The room is designed for players, not owners. Just a great place to play if you are in town. The staff is extremely friendly, a great group that makes you feel at home when coming into the room. It is my favorite place in the Southeast!!

Herman's, Dothan, Alabama

I know I am biased. but the best TRUE pool hall I know of is Herman's in Dothan, Alabama. When you walk in, it is just like stepping back in time. They could have shot the movie "The Hustler" there, and action is easy to find. This is one of Scotty Townsend's primary hang-outs and lots of road players make donations to the old timers on a regular basis.

I've been spoiled by those pool halls from when I was a teenager. (Well not Pool Room because it wasn't there then) I would shoot at Cues 2 every day for their free pool with lunch when I had a day off from school. Every Friday night I would go to "Murphy's Brass Rails" in Athens. It was only $7 an hour even with people. I normally played by myself so I chose that place a lot. Atlanta billiards was a decent pool hall. When I wanted to hang out with my friends I would go there. Just very smoky.

I go to other pool halls and I can't stand it. Especially after becoming a table mechanic. I notice everything wrong with a table.

And John. I sent you a private message. I'm glad to hear the diamond is 1/2 off by yourself.

And to clear up the waitress ordeal I don't want people to think they are terrible. The best way to describe it in a short way is some of the rift raft will constantly hit on the waitress' trying to impress them with an easy combo hoping to get in their pants. I don't know why they just don't go across the street to "Wild Bills". There are 3,000+ screaming drunk girls there. But when the waitress' are tending to me or other patrons they do good and are polite. They just get caught up which I do at my work myself.

Have a great day

I would have to say "Skull Bone Tower Road Billiards" on rattlesnake ridge in southeastern kentucky. Turn right, past Bobbie Duncan's grocery and follow the chip and seal road all the way to mudcut. Make a right past the 55 Chevy on blocks and go about 1/2 mile and your there. Two regulation sized Irving Kaye bar boxes with softball sized cue balls. Coin mechanism has been removed, just holler "rackem snake" when you need a rack ! Recently recovered in 78. Space invaders, pong and the latest videos. Pickled eggs, bologna, sardines, pigs feet and moon pies. If you want something to wet your whistle just ask "brown bag" for a quart of their finest. House pro is "badeye" or "bug" Taylor, not sure which. All the three ball action you want . It don't get no better then this! Oh and by the way smoking and chewing is allowed.

Hey JG, This post of yours was too funny...just wanted to let you know that somebody (me) had the warped sense of humor to appreciate it. By the way, if you're at the DCC next year, I'd be proud to offer to fill you up a paper cup from my 2 gallon bottle of homebrew that I keep in the back of my 76' beater pickup truck that'll be parked out back in the parking lot. ^_^
