No dispute that Efren is the GOAT, but who is the 9 ball GOAT?

Efron is often said to be the goat of All Around. There is a very good case for that. But Efren is also the best 8 ball player I ever saw. I think he might be the goat 8 ball player.
I completely duffed my post. It was really supposed to say:

“Varner was voted the top All-Around”

Personally, the best 8-ball I’ve ever seen has been Shane Van Boening. Shane for some reason didnt automatically join the IPT, so he wasnt at the initial Orlando tournament. I was at the IPT in Orlando. No question that Efren played magnificently, but it was more surprising that he didn't lose to Bustamante.

That all said, I put Efren as the greatest all-around. Just wanted to debate. It would have been nice to see the Derby when Nick was at his prime. And i liked Nick’s 8-ball over Efren due to Nick’s far better break.

SVBs greatest ever effort at 8ball was at what I believe was the 2013 us open 8ball on nine footers against a huge, elite field. He met Biado in the final and, with alternate break, each broke and ran nine of his first ten. Biado played a near perfect match and SVB still beat him in the end.

Still, SVB didn’t succeed at either the IPT or Darren Appleton’s World Pool Series, so it is hard to put him at the top.

I never saw SVB play Eight Ball. Efren was past his prime when IPT was making a go. If Efren had Johnny Archer's break I would have put him number one 9 baller and I think the record books would have also.. He seems to have been the best after break shooter when in his prime. But a strong break levels the playing field a lot in 9 ball.

Efren liked to say his prime was in the 1970's. But in the 3 IPT 8-Ball tournaments in 2005 and 2006 he finished 1st, 4th, and 1st -- good for $765,000.
I think a large part of that is because he understood the game so well his game holds up even if there was a slight decline in physical ability.
