Guess who I voted for? (LOL)
We received a phone call last week from a fellow in Texas about the auditions for this upcoming TV show. Unfortunately, the producers desire amateur players, which eliminates my horse!
If I had to pick non-professional players, I'd vote for Ronnie Allen who year after year is omitted from the so-called professional list, or any list for that matter, on the BCA website. He also is not a member of the men's governing body of professional pool, the UPA. In the height of his pool-playing career, there weren't too many folks who would play him even. Ronnie Allen is a legendary one-pocket player and very deserving for consideration as a qualified candidate (IMO).
My next vote would go to Sparky Ferrule or Little John, two colorful characters. Both guys definitely have the gift of gab and can be quite entertaining, not to mention they play well enough to hold our interest.
I'd also like to throw in Rachel Abblink. I don't believe she is on the WPBA list of players, and if not, she'd be a natural (IMO). From some of the comments I hear on the rail, she's also pleasant to look at when she's doing her thing on a field of green!
And then there's my homeboy Pookie. He's got the most unusual stroke, and when you see him play, the way he stands and holds his cue with the little pinky finger extended outward, it's quite different, but believe me, he can get the job done!
