Quote/Ribdoner's post:Southern Wisdom: 2 can live cheap as 1, if 1 don't eat.

One I heard: 2 can live as cheap as 1 for about 1/2 as long.

"F" Ebay  .

If you knew how some of that ivory was acquired you would have a different opinion. Basically what happens is that someone poaches an elephant, rhino or other large ivory bearing animal. They kill it, saw off the tusks and leave it. When they sell it they'll assure the buyer that it was harvested through humanitarian means which really means nothing because it'll go through more hands. By the time it gets to you it really doesn't matter how it got there.....so long as it's there.

I'm sorry, but I completely disagree with the use of ivory. Elephant ivory is a one time deal. They do not regrow the tusks. Rhinos do at the rate of about 2 inches per year.

I would love real ivory on a cue stick that I own, but not at that expense.

I agree with not allowing new ivory to sell, but there is plenty of pre-ban ivory out there as well. It sucks that even if you can authenticate ivory as perfectly legal, you still cannot sell it. Oh well, more for the AZ community's f/s section I suppose.

I understand what you are saying. My "f" ebay was directed more towards the fact that I dislike the site and culture surrounding it more so than the ivory policy. I like this site for buying/selling cues and craigs list isn't bad either.

Another cave in to politics.....

Yes and no

In reality politicians could care less about ivory because other than a few die-hard hippy wankers no one could care less. The simple fact is that it's too hard to determine banned from pre-ban when it concerns ivory.

Lets say I am an ivory seller. I go to a cue maker and tell them this ivory is pre-ban. Is this cue maker going to take my word for it, or is he going to spend cash to make sure. I'm sure there are other methods, but I doubt a cue maker is going to spend the money to carbon date some ivory.

Can someone answer for me why a deer's antlers cannot be used? I'd assume deer antlers and ram horns could carry the same consistency as ivory. Deer antlers aren't ivory, but they are most certainly ivory-like. There must be a reason why they haven't been used.

If the ivory is not dry, a cue maker cannot use it. No carbon dating needed. Just a moisture test.

Antlers from deer, moose, ram, elk, etc, are not white like ivory.

The color issue aside, these mtrls. are already used in cues; buckhorn, etc.
Since these critters aren't anywhere near the level of extinction as the Elephant, they don't carry the allure of owning something 'taboo'.
