recently had an accident, left hand is in a cast for 6 weeks
so no pool for me
been reading every pool magazine
looking for pool on tv (since i'm trapped at home)
watching pool movies

any more suggestions for a guy desprate for his pool fix.

any advice for me after i get my cast off.
my pinkey fingers knuckle has been removed and the finger bones fused together , my finger will be set at a slight bend
and my ring finger will get most of it's use back it'll just be stiff for a while

anyone been in this situation? how did you fare after surgery?

i'm right handed(right hand grips back of cue) so my bridges really won't be affected since it's my only my pinkey and ring finger on left hand, and i really don't use them to bridge with.
i know it will take some getting use to my fingers being somwhat different after surgery

Play one handed. You might be supprised, it can help improve cueing accuracy. You need to be steady to play that way, nothing wrong with that. You need a relaxed arm and swing the weight. Nothing different here other than you don't have a guide, use the rail or a table brush.

Try it you very well might improve your mechanics.

How does a cast on your hand keep you trapped at home?

You can always try playing some one handed games.

I totally agree. Play one-handed. You might be surprised how much it will help you.

Practice shooting left handed as well. I've seen a few people do this when a hand was broken. By the time the cast is off, they can shoot almost as well as they can right handed.

How about using the artificial bridge as often as possible? You could position it with your right hand and then steady the butt on the table with your cast hand. You could get mighted wicked with that in 6 weeks.

I'd be careful about too much one-handed play, as your stroke arm movements and stance are different for each of those. At least mine are for me.

Technically, you are supposed to put the bridge down on the table for stability purposes.

How do you get the bridge out of the way in time? I play one handed instead of using the bridge when I have a shot I can't reach or can't get the bridge in the right position (shooting over a ball). Shooting off hand sounds like a great idea, also.

If it had been your leg instead of your hand, you could have entered some one legged ass kicking contests. How about just reading a number of books and order some videos so that when you do come back, you'll be chomping at the bit.

Happened to me in the summer of '79. When you get your cast off, the muscles will have atrophied a bit. Whether you need physical therapy or not, give the muscle a few days to regenerate before you play pool. Of course, most of all, do what your doctor tells you to do.

Send me your email address through my website and let me know I promised that I would send you some pictures of newly completed custom cues. And for playing pool when you get your cast off - do your physical therapy it should help. But I think you will be fine. One of the very best hustlers around Phoenix in the 60's & 70's was a little guy who had NO FINGERS on his left hand - it didn't stop him at all. I PLAYED - and I do not have much mobility in some of my fingers - you have two joints in your fingers - I have two but only one works - some rare condition that I inherited - it didn't stop me from playing or building cues.

i have a table at home
so i guess i will have to play some one handed games.

my cast is really big an the only fingers that i can use are my thumb and half of my index finger so i cant bridge with my left hand (i've tried but it just won't work right)my other fingers are totally covered by the cast.the cast is a soft cast made from ace bandage. i have lots of crazy pins an rods sticking out of my fingers so my cast makes my hand like 3 times bigger than it should be,that 's because the pins and rods need lots of cushion around them

i will have to have physical therapy to get my pinkey and ring finger back into shape. but i really can't wait to get into therapy so i can get my life back on track and somewhat back to normal.

i'm not really trapped at home
but i cannot go to work so i feel trapped
my job requires both hands and heavy lifting
plus i can't be around dust or smoke
or anything that could possibly give my hand any infection
(doctors orders)

thanks for all the replies and suggestions
it means alot to me.

Of course, you could try playing some one-handed games here and there like the others have said. If it was me, I would probably catch up on reading all the great articles that you can find online as well as watching some pool videos.
