No pool table for you

As for Clyde , the attitude of the city council is about what you'll see all over the area, so I am not surprised by the news. As ridiculous as it seems it's their right to choose what they want.

Must be a bunch of cranky bored senior citizens on the Council. Who will be the first to get called out for corruption. Who are they kidding. They probably own adult entertainment and book stores.

Bob Byrne warned us about this, far too common, control freakiness.

I'd say that such small-mindedness from city councils and zoning boards, et al, harms the pool world and pool businesses more than any other thing.

I'd be interested in hearing from any room owners who have fought and won against these types of actions.

Our poolroom, just outside of Boone is located in western NC about 80 miles northeast of Asheville. We never had a problem with our small community town council 23 years ago when we were approved of our poolroom. Perhaps it helped that we have always been a family oriented no alcohol facility and that myself as the owner was not an outsider, with a family name that goes back centuries in this small community. We have been supported by church youth groups choosing to come here for years. Although we have 10 pool tables (8 9-foot, 1-7-foot, 1 10-foot), over 90% of our revenue has always come from the non-alcoholic food and beverage grill operation. We would have gone out of business many years ago without our grill.

I read the entire article, but I can't recall if it mentioned whether this small community of Clyde is dry (no alcohol) like many small communities in western NC including ours still are, or has alcohol? And if so, whether this particular business offers alcohol or if there are other "bar" establishments that are operating in this town? Pretty amazing that a player of the caliber of Wade Crane, who grew up in Robbinsville, NC - a similarly small rural western NC community located not far from Clyde, with likely the same conservative views regarding pool and pool establishments, yet was able to become one of the top professional 9-ball players of his era in the 1970s and 1980s.

When our girl was young we'd make an annual trip to Boone to get our Christmas tree. That included lunch at The Daniel Boone Inn, a must for anyone going to Boone IMO! Just make sure you don't get caught behind the Santa parade! Love Santa but driving behind the parade at 3 miles an hour is brutal...LOL!
