A jump cue is just easier to use if you want to jump a ball. I use a old beat up j&j break/jump with a white diamond. I can jump fairly well with it, and I like how I break. A cue like mine is a compromise, while a actual jump cue is actually a bit easier to jump with, I don't want to carry one and I just don't feel like I need it. Learning to kick is probably far more important, and one I learned when I started to play as there were no jump cues. Now days it seems people don't really learn it, which makes safeties easier if you can block off the jumps with multiple balls or freezing on one. I don't execute good enough to play the safes I have in my head half the time.It would probably be a rare occurrence that a pro or very experienced player tears the cloth by trying to do a masse shot. An inexperienced player who is trying to do masse shots might slip up. I'm sure we have all seen the results.
I dont own a jump cue or know much about them. some of the more experienced players I play with do them. can the difference of a jump shot cue be explained? different tip? Im always afraid to try, maybe I will on my own table where any damage is my problem.
