I hope you are right and I agree that 8 Ball indeed has the best chance, but my comment wasn't about straight pool in particular but rather my experience with the 10 Ball and One Pocket events that have been played during the BCAPL Nationals. Considering the thousands of supposedly serious players that are literally down the hall from the professional event very few spring for the $30-$40 day pass to watch the pros play. Most of them probably at least know what 10 Ball is.
Keep in mind also that they have been able to watch the grand masters division for free, and the stream of the pro events the last couple of years have been free in the rooms for players staying at the venue.
In any case, CSI is giving free general admission to all BCAPL members for the pro events next year. So I would expect pretty good crowds. If free doesn't bring them in, nothing will.
Steve, it occurs to me that the free admission policy for next year may have something to do with not including the 14.1 event.
