Non-Action Tables?

I stumbled across an old thread on local room etiquette where we discussed playing on "action tables", and a question came to mind.

I travel a lot and occasionally have an evening to kill so I'll go find a large or small room to practice, eat dinner if available, and have a few beers.

So what's a good way to send the message that I'm not really looking for action? Should I ask for a table that's "out of the the way", or would that imply that I want to get into the back room? Maybe it would be better to say "off to the side" or "banger table"

I think you want the best playing table anywhere...and what is wrong with the old, 'I don't play for $'. Usually works pretty good:);):)

It should be up to the room staff, if they don't know you, to not put you on a table usually frequented by the local action/serious players. If they don't know enough to do this, the room owner should make them aware of it. Where I played in NY for years, the owner insisted on putting people wherever they wanted to play, regardless. She eventually changed that policy;)

Many times, I would see a guy practicing who looked pretty good. I might hit him up to play some, being that I was in the market for a money game. The line that always ended the conversation early was, "I'm not a money player." Or, "I don't play for money." Works every time.

I have to agree that the best way to send the message is to say "No" when they ask if you want to play for money. If there is a table in the hall that is specifically reserved for action they don't hand it out unless there is action so you shouldn't have to worry about accidentally being put on the action table.

This is a little off the topic, but dealing with action tables. There is one main action table (that is only rented if the house is full and no action....like never)in the room I frequent (the one that gets 4 figure betting).
I was sitting with the owner and a few action players yesterday and they mentioned putting limits (bet amounts) on tables like Black Jack tables.
The $10.00 table, $20.00 table, $50.00 table..etc......ok it was funny if you were there.
