"The Thought ....
I know this may sound crazy, but I am thinking of holding a "Non-Tournament" . That is, a weekend or several days where players are asked to sign-up to come but, there would not be any entry fees, nor would there be any scheduled tournaments. The list of players that sign-up to come would be posted on this discussion board.

The Reason ....
Regardless of how you structure, schedule, limit, etc. a tournament, there never seems to be enough time for the players to do all the matching up they would like to do. So, this would eliminate the bigest problem .... the tournament. Thus, the tables would not be tied up at all for tournament play, nor would the players have to worry about being called to a tournament match or having to go get some sleep to be ready to play in a tournament match.

Tentative Date ...
Based on the scheduled tournaments I know about, sometime in late June would appear to be the best. I would like to have any advice you care to offer on this.

The Question ...
Would the players come? If you would be interested in attending such a Non-Tournament event then let me know by replying to this post. Also, talk to the players and stakehorses you may know that don't post on this site, and let me know what they say in a reply to this post.

Potential Players ...
Potential players and players I would like to hear from are:
Hennessee, I will likely talk to him but, if you do, see what he thinks.
Chuck Raulston, I feel sure Chuck would came (wouldn't he Corn Cobb and szamboti1), and will hopefully reply.
Nick Vita and the other Memphis Boys, maybe railbird#### will talk to him and let us know what he thinks.
Nicholas Hickerson, surely CrazyErica will reply for him.
Lil'Jon, I feel sure he would be here will bells on but, I would like to have your thoughts LJ.
Jaybird, what about it, let us know about you and the guys like Downtown and other down your way.
NotJaybird, talk to Biloxi Mike and let me know what you guys think.
Harold and Scotty, this is getting to be like a second home room for them so I feel sure they would be here, but talk to Squirrel and my buddy Cadilac, and let us know what ya'll think.
Billy Bailey and what's that guy's name he runs with..... you guys keep saying you are going to make it down, well let me know what you think of this idea.
David Trest (sp), don't know if he post on here, but some of you may talk to him.
Jesse Middlebrooks, hell he would come just to sweat the action, and I'm sure some of the guys from over around Atlanta would come with him.
Tim Orange, JoJo, and the others aroung Brimingham. Hopefully JoJo or Rusty will talk to them and let us know something.
Justin Cones doesn't really like gambling, surely I jest , but he might come if he gets back from Colorado.
ActionInTexas, I chatted with him about this already, and I hope he will talk to Doug Young and reply.
Rerun, Dwight, Louisana Red, and other players from around Jackson, MS.
Craig, Larz, Jason, and other from Arkansas.
Josh from over around Shreveport.
Scooter and Tetter, if they know they would surely be here, but I would like to hear what they think.
Jungledude, and anybody he happens to be with, of course. What do you think Hump?
Mobile Will, the guy stayed in action vertually 24 hours a day during the tournament here.

And the list would go on, and on, and on ......

Sounds good. Alot of those guys are semi regulars for you so I think
it could work. The list would need to be of known players that
gamble as well as some sweaters and sidebettors.

Maybe call it Southern Billiards Player Appreciation Weekend. A little BBQ for the players and let them go at it.
You might even have the room throw up a challenge or two. In lieu of added money the Room could put up smaller amounts for some types of challenges. This way the players could think of it as they are coming to
your appreciation event. They are getting a little food and some
free chances to win money. The matching up stuff will occur. After all
it is the south. Someones gonna bet on something even if its drinking a
gallon of milk.
The challenges could be most ghost racks ran in a row, break contests or
some sort of skills contests. Something to get them there.

Another idea would be more difficult for you to do. It would be to line up
2 or 3 matchups beforehand. With the known action players and bettors might be more inclined to attend.

I dont think you will have much trouble getting some players over for a weekend.

I'm not the Professor, I just copied his post to share with ya'll.
Sorry I didn't make that clear. Still I would like to hear ideas/ thoughts on this from the board. Thanks

frankncali,
Thanks for the suggestions, and it is a go. You are right:

And, that is what I believe will cause people to come. Lil'Jon had signed up, as has Jungledude (Humphrey) from Louisiana. Those two alone will insure action.

We have set the dates for the last week of June, officially June 29 through July 2, 2006 but, I expect people will start getting here the 27th or 28th.

I listed the Non-Tournament event, which we are calling the Southern Jamboree, on the "Tournament Announcement" forum, kind of strange since it is a "Non-Tournament". Anyway, people that are coming may "sign-up" at no cost :) by posting a reply to that thread which is entitled Southern Jamboree: A Non-Tournament.

We will try to set up some good action matches ahead of time and provide live coverage via streaming audio/video over the internet. It would be nice to have Marshall "Squirrel" Carpenter in a one-pocket match; he is past his "execution" prime but, the knowledge is still there, more than most of us will ever know. The free live stream we did during our Spring Fever Tournament was well received. Of course, like someone said, what were we going to do if somebody complained?; ask them were they want their refund sent!

Thanks again, and I'm betting it is going to be better than I ever imagined.

Southern Jamboree,,,,,,,,,, sounds like something Skynard and Allman might attend.

I think it is a great idea, Professor. I just might tip on up there myself. I would really like to see some of the mid-west guys show up but just the ones with heart.

This is the kind of thing my friend, Old Has Been, God rest his soul, would have loved.
