North America vs. Europe

We would then get Alex, right? Worth it just for the fun factor. I'm sure Matchroom has given it some thought.

But we all know what kind of team event would really showcase the best in our sport: Philippines vs. Taiwan. Either country could've fielded their D team and wiped the floor with the current teams at Blackpool.

I think both Morra and Klatt play at least as well as Alex right now. Needless to say, the Alex of five years ago was a far stronger player than either of them.

If I had to take a single Canadian right now, I'd probably take Jason Klatt, who was 3rd in the 2014 Derby City 9-ball event and 7th at the 2014 US Open 9-ball event. Klatt deserves far more respect than he gets. Give me the guy who is playing well in the toughest spots! That's Klatt.

I dunno, chanting "North America! North America!" just doesn't have the same ring to it...

Good idea - I think Alex , John Morra and Jason Klatt would snatch at least 2 spots from the current team. That old dog Edwin Montal may also want in LOL

This is crazy talk. Klatt over ALEX? You've lost your head buddy :)

I don't think this is true at all.

In fact, if you pick the best European team I'd give them a good chance of beating either of those two in this format. Nine on the spot, shot clock, noisy crowd... it's certainly not a mismatch.

World Cup of Pool is exaclty that, teams from different countries. Mosconi Cup is not. Seems all the time people ask "why not blah country vs blah country and the other country intead of Euro vs US" where there is already a tournament just like that.

And this year all 4 teams for the Semis and Finals were from Europe.

This even breaks it down by country over the years http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Cup_of_Pool

I do think that they should expand the US to be North America vs Europe although aside from Alex P I don't know who else would be picked. Morra maybe.

I love WCOP but comparing it with MC is comparing apples and pears. WCOP is just doubles that is all not a true team event . A better comparison is the relatively new World Team Championship
:)

Europe's best team, maybe even. But not the team playing now, that's for damn sure.

What if the teams are 10 deep? 20 deep? Anyone want to give even odds to the Europeans against either the Philippines or Taiwan?

Doubles vs. 5 man teams in different permutations? If those two are the same then anything can be anything.

You are taking the best players from different countries and putting them up against each other. The idea is the same, which country has the better players (that tournament). Would be nice to have some singles there as well, but then we have the World 9 Ball tournament for that. Not to mention that just about every big event has the same group of players playing against each other. So really every tournament is a "world tournament".
