Not an APA rule question

What is the ruling if you make say a solid on the break, you miss your next shot, you go over and get in a conversation,
next thing you know you look at the table and the other player has shot in two more of your balls thinking he had solids?
Just a discussion that came up last night and was wondering.

Everywhere I play is with defined rules and they all support the table is open after the break. In the occasions that I play bar pool, I tend to make it a point to find out what rules my opponent adheres to because they all seem to come to the table with different ideas of what the rules are. Usually I just go with whatever they’re familiar with. I usually only push for call pocket.

I think the applicable general bar rule is, "You snooze, you lose." Your opponent has solids.

It sounds like you guys did not clarify whether or not the table is still open after the break?

Regardless, getting into a conversation with another person while you are in the middle of playing a game shows a lack of etiquette / respect towards your opponent, which is likely why they didn’t feel any need to wait on you. The same can be said about opponents being on their cell phone during a game.

The APA rules state that if you make any ball on the break, that is your suit. OP said he made a solid on the break.
Appears that neither player was paying attention.

Table is still open if you didn't make a ball after the break doesn't matter what went down on the break.

Even if it is APA, if the second ball is struck before the foul call the players change suits so no applied foul. You have to call the foul on the first shot at the wrong ball….so even in APA you’re supposed to be paying attention.
This is wrong. This is not an APA rules question, so I won't elaborate. Anyone who wants can read the APA rules.

For the OP, the answer is "It depends on what rule set you are using." Absent any pre-negotiated rule set, I would say house rules, whatever those are.

I used to tell people "just tell me what rules you want to lose by". Now I say, with a smile on my face, "APA rules. Are there any others?"
