Not putting up with it!

A friend and I wanted to shoot some pool tonight so we decided to visit a fairly new (1 yr old?) poolroom here in town.

Before I go any further let me say that I am 49 yrs old, have no criminal history, I was dressed nicely and perfectly sober (can't drink), but beyond all that..my friend and I had plenty of cash which we were all too happy to be relieved of as long as we could just chill and play.

When we got to the place, we were immediately accosted at he entrance by a bouncer who said he had to search us. I reluctantly agreed to what I thought would be a simple cursory pat down. This attitudinally challenged scumbag proceeds to give a me a full "you're in custody" police style body frisking including my 'nads and ass and then orders me to open my case (wherein lies my Tucker custom and my Predator BK) and then has me empty my pockets.

I wouldn't consent to a search from a police officer. Why should I have to go thru this kind of crap just to shoot pool?

After all this, I told the guy goodnight turned around walked out and went to another poolhall with equally nice amenities and no grief.

If you're ever in the North Bergen, NJ area you'd do well to avoid this place:

Gotham Billiards
The Tonnelle Plaza
8101 Tonnelle Ave,
North Bergen, NJ 07047

Sorry to hear about that. Sounds like a pretty trendy pool hall. Defenitely not a player's pool room. Are you sure the guy was a bouncer? Or, could it have been some perv looking for a good time? I know, maybe he was just making sure you weren't smuggling in outside food and drink. That is a no-no when it comes to trendy pool rooms. A pool buddy of mine had his hand broken for bringing in a Mountain Dew. Six months ago he had a pizza delivered to the pool room, he went out to the parking lot to get it, and nobody has seen him since. RIP Jingles.

Thanks for the heads up. However, somebody would have to pay me a lot of $ to ge me to go to Jersey- New York's dumpster!:D

That is NUTS! Oh sorry 'bout that! :p Maybe that exclamation was a bit personal. ;)

That would have never happened even 10 years ago. I would ask if this is some kind of joke or a way to get back at the owner for something else, but you sounded pretty convincing! I think I would have left too. I suppose a light search would have been alright, but that is a bit crazy. You should have asked them why the search was needed.

LOL Actually I have traveled all over the US, except for the East Coast. But if I ever get to Jersey, my main stop will be Redbank and go to the Jay and Silent Bob comic shop. And no I don't collect comics...just love the movies! Snootch to the Mootch!

New Jersey

Ok guys......Lighten up on Jersey.......It isn't all bad.....South Jersey is acually quite nice with the shore, the pine barrens, the occasional mob graveyard....
All the chemical plants up north give the "Garden State" a bad image.... South Jersey is a lot of farms and small towns.....but then I can get into trouble anywhere.....

I would have told the bouncer that the only weapon I had was in my case .......;) then asked if he was enjoying the feel of nut nut sac........

I am in no way affiliated with nor do I live in New Jersey

McCue Banger McCue

Some incident must have occured for them to have such an intrusive search at the front door. There was a shooting at a poolhall I used to play at, and before that they would let anyone in with no problem. After the shooting, they had 300lb bouncers with metal detectors at the door checking everyone.

Here are the livability rankings for the top 10 states as rated in "State Rankings 2006" (Morgan Quitno Press):

Most Livable States in Descending Order:

1 New Hampshire
2 Minnesota
3 Iowa
4 Vermont
5 New Jersey
6 Wyoming
7 Massachusetts
8 Virginia
9 Nebraska
10 Connecticut

PA is 30th on the list, New York is 32nd. Rounding out the bottom of the list are: Louisiana in 50th, Mississippi in 49th, Arkansas in 48th, Kentucky in 47th and South Carolina in 46th place.

Here is a link to the entire list of rankings for all 50 states:
http://netscape.homestore.com/homef...p?gate=aolnetscape&source=a9951&poe=homestore

The area I live in has one of the lowest crime rates in the country, and I feel safe walking around my neighborhood at any time. That's not to say that crime is non-existent but it is mostly limited to crimes against property. Violent crime is rare here.

BTW NJ was 8th on the list in 2005.

there needs to be some thought put into this subject by club owners, pool room owners etc. this relates back to the danny medina incident, but this just seems it could give a thief a perfect opportunity to see how much money people have on them, whether that person is the doorman or somebody smoking a cigarette by the door doesn't matter, the fact that crime could actually go up because of searches like this does matter.

Damn, C-caucus, that's pretty extreme! I lived over in that general area (61st and Kennedy Blvd., and 48th and Blvd. East) back in the 80s and never heard of anybody getting that kind of grief. Maybe some gangbangers have taken over?

You have a right to privacy. However, once u give it up it is solely your fault. I agree that is way overboard and would not go there again though.

Small world isn't it?:)

I've not heard of any problems at Gotham Biliards with gangs or crime and news travels fast around here. Something must have happened there, but exactly what happened I don't know.

I have quite a few friends on the Guttenberg, North Bergen, and West New York police departments. All are sergeants or Lieutenants. I also have some friends that are correctional officers at the county jail. I'll ask them if they know of any incidents at that poolhall. Hell, maybe I'll go there with them and have a good laugh when the bouncer notices a dozen guys packing serious heat. It should be fun when he gets some high ranking badges stuck in his face and has to adjust his "bad ass" attitude.;)

Thanks for the heads-up. No Gotham billiards for me.

At least when a business does this crap you can go elsewhere; when the govt does it, you're stuck. Personally, I'd have left the second he asked.
