Well, my friend. This is modern Cue making???
Where if a person doesn't know how to tap properly. They seek alternative options. But look on the bright side, it gives you and I something to laugh about and label HACK all the time. You know one of these days I'm going to sit at the computer instead of this stupid phone and post pictures of what you and I share. Of course people's first response will be.... Mike's a dick. But seeing they have no respect for themselves or Cue making, I'll get over throwing them under the bus.
Oh, and for the record. Some of them boys have been hammering in joint screws for years.
Really, I've worked on a lot of Hueblers and never noticed. I'll keep an eye on the future one's I restore. Thanks
Well if Huebler was doing it then we might not want to call those who followed his example "Hacks" as I never saw a Huebler pin come loose. I also never saw a Dieckman pin come loose and he was the one who taught people to do it that way almost 30 years ago. I thread my hole for my pins and one thing I can tell you is not all glues are made equal. I have seen pins unthread out of tapped holes on other brands of cues. Some think super glue is a good glue for ferrules. Others think wood glue or gorilla glue is good for a-joints. And just because something works most of the time does not mean it is best. There will be failures at times even though those glue methods may work over 90% of the time.
I like to see methods that fail without seeing whose brand of cue it is. But if you throw people under the bus by showing work that failed and revealing their names, and not just showing how their methods failed, then yes that is what you will be called. My question is: Would they be wrong for calling you that if you did that?
Nope. They would be correct. Which is why I haven't done it. I love Cue making as do you but there are lots and lots of riddles.
I think some guys push them in because they have a hard time making the pin run concentric to the cue, IMO this is the wrong approach. The thing that bothers me is customers who choose the cheapest repair guy assuming that the work is the same regardless who they go to. For example the guy who sleeves all his ferrules and sticks them on with ca glue is not the same as the guy who takes the time too chase threads with live tooling and properly fit a new ferrule and wait a day for the epoxy to cure then machine it to size. When both ways are trimmed to size the customer cant see a visual difference and assumes it's the same thing and wonders why one guy charges more than the next. Sorry for the rant..

I'm sorry, I think you may have misunderstood my post.. I'm not saying huebler pins come loose or need to be replaced.
I've seen the pins out of the cue, I'm not 100% positive that it is original but it's not the only huebler I seen like this.
I've got one in the cue cave, I'll snap a pic and post it later.

I know what you mean as I many times just shake my head and wonder what someone was thinking when they did some things the way they did to the cues, but I am not naming any names.
I still see some of things I did 20 years ago. I say it honestly. I wish I knew better. Now I do.
