Forgive me if this has been mentioned here before, but I just accidentally came across "Mel's Unique Cue Cases" and just had to share. I don't know if it is genius or madness but I love the idea.

Wow that is cool. I don't have you know whats to try and pull it off but they're neat.

Yeah, and they are also 10k a pop...Massey has a couple. He considers them works of art and not really to be used as a functional out and about cue case. I talked at length with this guy on the phone. He is very nice and all...but a little bit...well...odd. He is definately an artist and he makes a very unique product...but I am not sure how much of a market he is going to have for a 10,000 pool stick case ya know? I wanted to recommend having a plastic version of them that's lighter and more affordable. I would get one if they were sub 200 range.

Wow! That is a lot of work.

Now I don't feel so bad for what I paid for my new Jack Justis case.

Actually, I never did. It was worth every penny.

No, thanks. I don't care how much work goes into each case, or how much they sell for, I think they're butt ugly, and tacky to boot. I wouldn't be caught dead with one of those cases.

I'll take a Justis, Whitten, or an Instroke, over one of those any day.

The guy makes a great, if very unusual, case. I can see why some are willing to pay thousands for it, as it is truly a piece of art.

A pool table may have aesthetic beauty as a piece of furniture
A cue may have aesthetic beauty as a piece of sporting equipment
A cue case may have aesthetic beauty as an equipment storage compartment

I admire all the craftsmen able to command a premium price for their pool products on the basis of the aesthetic value of such products.

i would look so cool walking into the poolroom with my wife-beater t-shirt,seersucker bermuda shorts, black socks and white loafers and that awesome case. the chicks would go absolutely wild!!

Fats,
You said it all as far as I'm concerned. "Tacky" is the operative word I think.
Cats.

Certainly should get you some action.

This is great...he lives in the same place where I'm going to build a house. Maybe I can lure him into a game and play for a case. Ain't no way he'll ever win...

Yeah, i think they are worth about $5. I would rather have a $5 fake leather K-Mart case. Tacky. I'm not into the whole 'Pool Shark' thing.

Which reminds me of a little story. There is a hall here called The Snooker Shack. The owner has a fairly large aquarium built into the counter, and it is set up very nicely. He has some beautiful fish in there, including some that look like, er, sharks. Above the tank on the front of the counter is a nice big sign that reads "BEWARE OF SHARKS". I think it's kinda funny ...
