Nude Avatars/BS

Yeah, suggestive avatars are totally lame. Unless of course you can find a girl in a bikini holding a bible while fending off zombies... now that would be kewl.

In my opinion, Avatars are meant for personal expression and doesn't really have to have anything to do with pool. Just like our choice of user names......it doesn't have to be our real names.... it's a chance for us to express our creative side.

Now, if posting a pic of a hot blonde with a set of 36D's is the extent of your creativity, then so be it. As long as it falls within the rules set by AZB. Just remember, people judge others by what the see. Perception is powerful, especially the initial one. That is why most people walk into a job interview with a suit and not a tight mini-skirt.
So, when you decide to post an avatar, it's best to decide whether or not you are putting your best foot forward.

Just my opinion.....

TAP!!!TAP!!!TAP!!!..........Never worked for me:o

VICARIOUS sex is overrated

I'd look at that......... as long as she's not showing her hoo-ha !

(I like to just 'imagine' the hoo-ha, not have them shoved in my face) :)

I don't understand what everyone's problem is. If you don't like it, don't look at it. I have yet to see an avatar on here that is more revealing than an episode of baywatch was. I mean really, if it's only hitting PG-13, then who cares. Do we really have to censor everything that much. It's bad enough that I have to wear a helmet when I ride my motorcycle in most of your states, but now you are going to censor what I may or may not have as an avatar?

No, I don't have an avatar, but when I do decide to put one up there, it will be what I choose. It's my choice, not yours, or yours, or yours. After all, it's MY avatar and I am using it to represent me! I could care less what you have as an avatar, I will probably look at it and if I don't like it, I WILL IGNORE IT.

Why is this that big of a deal? Maybe I don't like the dog with freakish eyes in ManWon's avatar:D , should he change it because of me? It's not pool related, and I'm afraid my kid may have nightmares...possibly severe mental trauma for the rest of his life, all because of it:rolleyes: . Get real people. This is America (for some of us) and you have your right to cry about things like this, but one of these days the minority that cries is going to take a right of yours away...then you'll understand where the rest of us are coming from.

P.S. Thanks for reviving this thread. I forgot about it, and really wished that I could post in it when I first read it.;)

I feel your question is a fair question, and the intimate discussion on what is correct for AZBilliards Forum IMHO rest with what the team or moderators, and forum owner will allow. Mike Howerton, aka AZHousePro is the Forum Owner, pay the bills, is the guy will all the responsibility, and everyone else is a guest in MIKES HOUSE. IMHO that give Mike the last word on what is and what is no acceptable. NUFF Said for now.

Yeah, what he said.

Some people take this site Waaaay to seriousely. Ive never seen a totally nude avatar, most are just suggestive. Yall do know u can turn the avatars off right? Why dont you just turn them off? they must not be that offensive. I see way more on primetime tv. Are u gonna write the networks too?

If they turned off all avatars, they would miss the good ones... like your cutie pie puppy:-)

I'm still alive

And, so is this topic. :)

Anyway, in my opinion, we all come here for different reasons, and have different tastes.

Isn't life great?

i have my own point of view on the subject but i would not have voiced it until JoeyA's thread that I felt expressed my sentiments exactly, but with a little further explanation. maybe our way of getting there is/was a little different, but also, maybe the same. i don't know, it doesn't matter. but there is a bit more to this sentiment (that maybe JoeyA feels also). and i am sorry some of you will not agree with my way of thinking. none the less, it is great that we can share each of our sentiments here for the benefit of the forum members.

here we go: "Once Upon A Time.... long, long ago" i was a young-boy/young-man. i am sure some of my peers will remember how many of us loved to get to see a copy of playboy. i couldn't believe how unbelievably breathtakingly beautiful a "woman's" body was. that was just part of our growth and understanding of life. and i believe a truly "healthy" part of our growth.

i will guess that many of the "sexier" avatars are just examples of the above, from our younger brothers/sons who feel no different than we did as youths. and i don't think there is any disrespect intended from anyone. none.

but on the other hand, my wife, when she first saw me on my computer and one of the "sexier" avatars was there asked, "honey, what are you looking at???? - what is this web sight????" i felt a little embarrassed at first, until i reassured her, it was azb and i said, "please understand this is just a sexy avatar from one of our members." and another time she saw the same kind of thing, and was a little shocked at first and then said, "oh, that is azb, i know, i know".

my point is this, it made her feel a "little bit uneasy". and honestly even at my age and my wife's "little bit" of uneasiness or surprise, i do not believe it is 'over the top'.

i think most of us have been or try to be really respectful. its just more that we are "boys" and have a healthy and great appreciation of the beauty women possess, that we as men do not. seems to me as, "that's just the way it is".

i do however object to the avatars for example that show a person "flipping the bird". to me that is "intently disrespectful" to women and children and therefore to many of us too.

just my opinion,
smokey

Okay, JoeyA, you put me on the spot. I'll have to speak up in order to not be condoning or approving something I don't like. So I'll say it - I do not like avatars that show scantily clad women in suggestive poses. There are plenty of other places on the net to view that kind of stuff, so why do some people feel it's necessary to bring it to this site?

I'll place my vote too.. I just don't care what avatars you all use because I have them turned off to avoid the use of bandwidth and inevitable screen resizing.

It was real simple too.. went like this:
ME: 'I have issues with avatars, they take bandwidth unnecessarily'
ME: 'Oh look, I can turn them off so easily in my settings'
ME: 'Should I post about how others could be wasting bandwidth too?'
ME: 'Nah, they have the same settings to change that I do'

While your solution is a pretty good one and something that some may choose to do, I prefer observing the Avatars and the clever way in which some of them are used as well as to appreciate their artistic creation and the creator of the Avatar.

It is good of you and all of the other posters to post their opinions on this matter and I hope that others will take the time to make their opinions known.

Those who remain silent are giving their approval to the continued use of graphics that are distasteful to some. My good friend SmorgassBored often uses graphics that are repugnant to me and in Private Mail, I on occasion send him my opinion. Doug as an individual who makes his personal decision and travels his own path. On avatars that are totally reprehensible to me, he has considered my feelings and removed them.

I believe that if we concentrate on the core issue and that is that this is a Pool & Billiards Forum first, secondly, a meeting place for friends and peers, that we will then consider the feelings of others and individually make the choice to abide not only by the rules already established in this forum but to help make this a better forum for those that come after us.

JoeyA

As Joey requested I'm going to step up and admit I don't care for the scantily clad avatars either. I appreciate the men who have the guts to post that they don't feel these avatars belong here either.
That doesn't make us prudes or straightlaced it just means those pictures belong somewhere else and as a female I would not put a half naked man on my avatar, just because it doesn't belong here.
I don't turn the avatars off because some of them are very interesting if not clever.

It's easy.......

When you're in someone elses house, you follow THEIR rules. They set the rules to portray a certain image to the public that will promote both billiards and the site. The fact that they may or may not want to always berate the offenders doesn't really matter. If you're an adult you live by the rules of civilized behaviour.

Keep it clean.....The LAST thing I need to see is some guys hairy **s on here. But I'm sure that many women think it may or may not be a thing of "beauty" as many of you use for reasoning.

How about showing some respect for all the women on here.

I thought this was a billiard web site plain and simple, I just don't understand why we NEED to constantly show women in provacative poses, I guess it must be IMPORTANT because AZ lets it happen, but, what's their reasoning?
Women are constantly looked upon like the cameras are rollin' all the time, why HERE? Maybe the homosexual crowd would like to see some Chippendales, boy now that would be even more worthwhile wouldn't it?
SEX is everywhere, why here? What good does it do? Do they have these avatars on tennis/bowling/& PGA websites?
Have fun now attacking my above point of view.
If you have kids, protecting them as they grow is a challenge, its why I personally was instrumental in having the BCA move the Jr. Nationals out of the bars and into the colleges for the nationals, I hated it when I saw 8 and 10 year girsl and boys around alcohol, smoke and all that happens in a bar.

Other than one of the sisters at my school walking by and seeing a big oily ass in a thong, I have no problems with the avatars. Sorry, my panties aren't wound so tight that I feel the need to make that something so important on my "To complain about...." list.
