Folks from various not-as-cultured parts of the country would probably "steer" you (forgive the pun) on what places they visited in NYC that "had a good burger."

A little advice -- while NYC has some of the best steak houses and burger joints in the world, you don't go to NYC to have a burger! I'd suggest to anyone visiting NYC to take the opportunity to break out of the uncultured American mold, and have yourself some truly worldly cuisine. NYC offers cuisine from around the world, all in one place. Italian, German, Indian, Greek, Mediterranean, African, etc.

For those that think the Barilla pasta with Ragu sauce is "Italian," you'll have an awakening when you come to NYC!

Sean I suggested Jackson Hole because Cuebuddy mentioned burgers. As for me im no visior, Im born and rased in NYC. I enjoy the best of NY/PA

this is pretty amazing that if you find yourself one day looking for a quick bite on the fly, this cart, yes I said cart, is actually rated like #20 restaurant in NYC by Trip Advisor. how is that even possible?

It has to be the Halal Guys at 6th and 53rd. Only *that* cart - all other "halal carts" are posers..

for like 6 bucks you won't be able to finish the chicken and rice/beans.

grays papaya is another great cheap eats in the city specializing in various themed hot dogs and tropical fresh juice drinks.

then there's zabars on 83rd and broadway. or is it 82nd? when in nyc, I never miss going there at least once. :thumbup:

I can make recommendations on spectacular upscale joints, as well. :smile:

but at the end of the day, tastes in food can be as subjective as which tip to use.

If you want, I may be able to make it into the city and can bring you a cue to use.

There is a better then good chance my younger boy will be working in New York once he graduates and I will visit often.

Thanks for the information guys, I'll be visiting sometime in July, will head to Amsterdam for a couple of games, might even check out some of the food you guys recommend.

FWIW, Pourhouse makes a pretty good burger. During weekdays, Pourhouse runs a lunch special which makes it less expensive than to eat at McDonalds.

Even a random dive in the East Village will have better burgers and fries than Fuddruckers, Five Guys etc- Try the Pourhouse at the opposite end of Amsterdams block for a quick lunch

Being from Jersey I know of what you speak.Now I'm in Colorado where the only place I have found with good Italian food is Dino's on west Colfax in Lakewood. they been doing this for 60 years or so.
