OB-1 Malfunctions

bpg24,

The OB-1 is a flexible shaft by design, but it does play "whippy". In fact, when we go to shows or tournaments and let anyone who wants to hit with it, the most common comment we get is how solid and/or stiff it hits. Our goal was to build a low squirt or deflection shaft that had to solid stiff hit of a conventional shaft that would come on a typical high end custom cue, but be able to spin the cue ball like a soft flexible shaft does. Most people agree that we have succeeded. I don't know why your experience with the OB-1 was so different, but I can say that the only times we have had comments about the cue shaft playing "whippy" is when they were hitting the cue ball very hard with way too much side spin. The OB-1 spins the ball well enough that most people find themselves moving closer to the center of the cue ball and getting just as much spin. Moving closer to the center of the cue ball just adds to the low squirt aspect of the cue shaft and people make more balls.

Obviously I know that the OB-1 is not for everybody, so it's ok if you don't like it. I just wanted to maybe provide a possible answer for what you experienced.

Neither of the OB-1's I played with were new. Both were used so that may have something to do with it. For all i know they could have had non stock tapers.

I hope you guys bring out a smaller diameter shaft with a much stiffer taper. I would certainly give it a try!

i dont want to make another ob thread so maybe i could post it here. i saw john schmidt's whats in the case interview at inside pool and saw him using a ob1 washable sandpaper, where can i get one? i believe it's for the micro splinter issue :)

Why did this thread have to turn into a political pissing contest? Someone had a problem with a product and decided to post it on this forum. Probably should have been handled directly with the manufacturer. But here we are talking about crap from China and the good ol' USA. For those of you that choose to buy products made in the USA, that's your choice and I'm ok with that. But you should also respect that other people may choose to buy a similar product that is made in a foreign country because that is their choice as well. Can we agree to agree that both products have loyal followings and they each have had issues with quality?
How about we just respect each other as fellow pool players and disregard the brand of cues, cases, shafts, tips, shirts, gum, glasses, cars, bicycles and what ever else you are into?

i used to have an ob1 shaft until i was gambling the other day and just Dogged it bad and broke it!!..was suprised when i saw a tube of rubber pop out of the shaft!! didnt know it was made that way..was neat to see actually.....

I received an OB1 partial a few months back.
It had a warp in the middle. About 20 thousandths of an inch of runout.
I called them ( talked to one of the owners ), I was told to send it back.
I received a new one days later.

Would any other shaft manufacturer do that?
I don't know.

Jon and I are in Vegas at the VNEA tournament right now, but we do still have people at the shop who can take care of this for you.

The shaft in question belongs to a freind, although I shoot with a predator, I have heard nothing but good things about you and your products. Thanks for the prompt reply and I will pass the info to my friend. Also, thanks to everyone else who replied.
