ob-1 shaft changing ferrule

Is there anyone out there whom can change the ferrule of the ob-1.

I know this voids the warranty but my friend doesn't like the soft hit of the ob-1 and i've heard there are cuemakers out there who are willing to change it to a standard lbm ferrule.

please pm the price of which you're willing to do it for.

thanks,

I've done it because I also don't like the hit (or lack of) an OB-1 shaft.
I installed LBM ferrule and a Triangle tip and was blown away at the fact that the hit improved ONLY SLIGHTLY. The mod. increased deflection as well.

The OB shaft, IMO will never offer the same hit as a one pc. shaft due the nature of it's basic construction. The foam-filled hollow dampens most all of the shaft's vibrations and will continue to do so regardless of tip/ferrule.

I would suggest that your friend give-up this pursuit and either accept the shaft as is or sell it while it's still in orig. condition.

I'm not throwing my hat into the ring of those willing to do this conversion because I won't.

As KJ said, changing the ferrule will increase cue ball squirt or deflection tremendously!

The hit of the OB-1 really isn't soft, it is just quiet. The vibration dampening core is what makes it quiet. This is why changing the ferrule doesn't change it all that much. If you have ever played with a regular shaft and worn ear plugs so that you can't hear the hit, you know what I am talking about.

The reason we dampen the sound is because we feel that the true feedback comes from the harmonic vibrations from the hit, and not the noise that it creates. When you hit with an OB-1, at first you don't think it gives much feedback. But if you play with it for a while, you will find the harmonic vibrations that you didn't know were there! Believe me, there is a ton of feedback, just not much noise.

I hope that helps!
