How do you take the ferull off of the tenon? I want to put on a difrent ferull like MR. Varney does. Thanks for your help.

Why would you want to do that??

A lot of the playability of the OB1 is because of its design and that includes the ferrule and the coring material. Everyone seems to be infatuated with finding the perfect combination of equipment. Just my opinion, but there is no such animal. Your best game that you can play exists in you, not in the equipment. Any great player can pick up a house cue and adjust quickly. I would give it some time and adapt your game to the OB-1 and not try to adapt the OB-1 as if it needs change.

Sometimes you just need to leave well enough alone. I don't even notice the ferrule anymore and the shaft does what I bought it for.

Ferrule replacement

I personally love my OB shaft just the way it is. However, I will try and PM my friend on here who did this exact same experiment with his cue lathe. He said he like's it a lot. He said it has a 'harder' hit to it. That CLICK hit that some people like.

lol, your right Rex. I cant get enough of the 'click' i get after i put the tenon and an LBM ferrule.

*Metall, You wont be able to use the the tenon that is on the shaft. You have to cut off the ferrule, make a 5/16 hole about 1.5 inch down the shaft and install a tenon with enough on the other end to install the ferrule of your choice. I used an old maple shaft as a dowel and Devcon epoxy to secure it. I warmed up the bottles before i mixed them, it makes it a bit thinner.

Make sure u wrap the end of the shaft a few times with tap so it doesnt expand when u put the tenon and expoxy in. Make sure to cut a little glue relief in the tenon. Then install your ferrule as you normaly would, I threaded it and left it capped.

I am by no means a cue maker, please take this as a grain of salt. Im sure cue makers will give you better information, and point out where I might have gone wrong.

If you want a harder hit then why not get the Predator shaft. I used both the OB1 and Predator and they each claim to have low deflection, however the predator has a stiffer hit and the OB1 will actually bend and has the softer hit.

I have 2 Ob's and one is factory the other was reworked with SabreT ferule and SNiper tip. I don't even play with the factory one anymore as the diff is HUGE. Much more quality hit and feel. The factory one has no feel and no hit in direct comparison. The cuemaker that did mine is too busy now and sadly only works on his own stuff right now.
