ob-1 shaft on a jerry olivier

anybody use this combination?
let me know what you like or you dont like about it.
if you get one i might be a buyer of the regular shaft. i tried one for a few months, i couldn't get used to it. i always seem to use too much english anyway and OB1's are very sensitive to spin. i only play one pocket, the shafts are fine for pocketing balls without much english.
rodney.

Same here. I tried one on my Olivier for 3 months and wanted to quit pool. Too much spin for me. I use a tigerx shaft on mine and dont think I will ever switch. The regular shafts play real good though. I think most of the hit quality is in the 3/8 10 pin. Give it a try though, the OB hit really solid I just couldn't get used to the deflection/spin.

I think it really all depends on the cue attached
to the OB-1. I use the OB-1 on my Josswest and
it performs flawlessly. Because of the ivory joint
and being a hard ebony cue the softer feel of the
OB-1 and spin was a welcome addition to my cue.

The Josswest shafts for my cue are real good too,
but didn't offer much spin and hit to hard for my
particular game and taste. The OB-1 offered a
little more softness than the 314 which matched
up with this cue I'm using.

What I'm trying to say is the cue has effect on the
shaft and each person's style is different. What
works for one may not be good for another. Just
have to expierment I guess until you find what
works best for you.

I am now playing with a Jerry Olivier cue with a Predator shaft. I love the predator shaft. I used to use an Annie O laminated shaft and was very sattisfied with it.

I have an OB-1 shaft that I have tried several different tips on and as far as i'm concerned, if it hadn't cost me so much, I would use it to beat my dog or burn it in the fireplace.

(I really don't beat my dog) She's a 13 year old Chihuahua and is afraid of her own shaddow. That would be just wrong.......................... ;-)

Most people feel the OB-1 cue shafts do spin the cue ball a little better than other cue shafts.

The added spin means that you can hit a little closer to the center of the cue ball. This is actually a huge benefit because everyone makes more balls when they hit closer to center!

However, some have had trouble adjusting to this. The reason is that they have trouble getting closer to the center. I have worked quite a few people through this with a simple drill that does wonders. This drill also helps anyone adjust to a low deflection cue shaft fairly easily.

Basically, you just throw the balls out and randomly shoot them in, with no sidespin. Use all the high and low that you want, but no side spin!

Do this for a good 8 to 10 minutes at a reasonable pace. Don't stop!

Now, without stopping, start to add a little side spin. Not much, just a half a tip. Do some with right and some with left. Then, add more side spin. Keep adding the spin until you get the spin you are looking for.

What this does is first, it gets your brain aiming without compensating for squirt or deflection. There isn't any squirt with just high and low. Then, without stopping you start right into shooting with a little side spin. Your brain will automatically aim the same way it has been for the last 10 minutes or so, and you will see the balls go in like crazy, with side spin. The other benefit is that you get to see just how little off center you have to hit the cue ball to get the spin you need. Most of us tend to hit way to much off center.

I beleive this drill to help just about anyone, with just about any cue or shaft, but it really helps someone adjust to LD Shafts, or shafts with different spins than what you are used to.

I am very happy with OB1 shaft on Jerry` butt.I intend to continue that.Basically I am a spinner, more spin more happy I will be as more balls will be pushed into the ditch. These days my game is One pocket.

I personally like my two OB-2 shafts. They make moving around a nine footer effortless, but like has been pointed out and like with any shaft, you must get use to them. The wood ferrules give you a feel while pocketing balls that I would not give up.

I just switched from a Z to a OB1 as my exclusive playing cue about a week ago. I've had the OB1 for awhile (won it here! woot, woot!) and have tinkered back and forth between the two. I switched about 4 sessions ago to the OB1 exclusively. It is taking some real adjustment but Im making progress.
