I am preparing to install a kamui black med tip on one of my OB-2 shafts. I have been to the OB website and looked at the recommendations for tip replacement. I assume the OB-2 shafts are the same as OB-1 shafts when it comes to procedure for tip replacement...ie...the carbon fibre washer must be left in place and care should be taken not to damage it. The OB site recommends using a lathe to accomplish all required tasks.....removal...trimming.....shaping....etc. I do not have a lathe and would prefer to do the work myself. The process I intend to use is this.
1. remove old tip with razor blade taking care not to damage carbon washer.
2. Remove any remaining tip material from the washer with the "cue top sander" tool.
3. lightly sand the back of new tip.
4. apply new (13mm) tip to washer using tiger gel cyro glue and a porper tip clamp.
5. trim tip to 11.75mm dia using the porper "big shaver" tool.
6. sand tip to "nickle" radius using a sandpaper type tip tool, being carefull to sand from tip to ferrule.
Will I encounter any difficulty using this method? Are there pitfalls I should be aware of? Any foreseeable problems relating to the use of the big shaver on the carbon washer( I do not intend to attempt to shave the tip beyond the washer and will use great care during this process to avoid touching the washer at all.....but CHIT does happen.
Thanx in advance for any help you may provide.....Dan
