OB-2 vs Z2

I have an OB1 and prefer it much more than the 314^2. I also have a Z2 and I like it, but I'm wondering if I would like the OB2 more since I love the OB1. I have never hit an OB2 and don't know anyone who has one. Are they to close to justify having both? I really wish there were a LD shaft between the two in diameter at about 12mm or 12.25mm

You can get the OB1 shaft taken down to 12.5, but I believe this voids the warranty (correct me if I am wrong...Royce?).

There are a lot of people who are continuously buying LD shafts...so my advice would be to buy an OB2, if you don't like it, sell it. Someone would be willing to pay $180-200 for a second hand OB2 which hasn't seen 20 hour play.

For what it's worth, have a check in the Cue Review section.

Ob2

I have owned both, and I would say that I like the OB2 better. They both play great. I sold my Z shaft to a friend and after about 6 months of play his Z shaft started to come apart. I have not had any problems with my OB2 shaft and it gets plenty of use.

Get the ob2 classic. Great shaft. I also have the ob1 and that has become my break shaft with a different cue. Everything just feels so much better with the smaller diameter.
And like the previous poster said, if you don't like it you can easily sell it.

Not to hijack, but what are the main differences in feel and hit between the ob2 and classic pro?

Not trying to be a jerk, but nobody is gonna pay that much for a used OB. I have bought them new from people on this site for less than that. That being said I have had a OB2 and didn't like the smaller diameter, but love the OB1.

I've had the Z-2, the OB1, the ob2 AND now the OB Classic Pro. I've also had the Predator 314-2 but it's not my cup of tea. I like all three of the OB shafts but the OB Classic Pro is my favorite. It seems to be a little stiffer than the OB2 and I seem to be banking a little better. I've only had it for a couple of weeks but I haven't put it down for a minute. I may have to go back to the OB 2 just to see if I can still play with it.

I play with a glove so the conical taper doesn't bother me one bit. I'm all about performance, anyway...

I like the OB Classic Pro I am contemplating getting another one. Maybe I should wait until after the U.S. OPen One Pocket Championship next month. :p:D Not really, I know I like how I am playing right now and regardless of the outcomes there, I like the Classic Pro.

OB Shafts...

Not to hijack, but what are the main differences in feel and hit between the ob2 and classic pro?

Stiffer hit by the OB Classic Pro. Both have conical tapers and are right at 11.75mm at the tip but beef up so the feel great where you bridge with the cue.

BTW, for others, there is an OB Classic as well as the OB Classic Pro.

I sell them all but that's not why I recommend them. If they didn't help me play better I wouldn't be using their product and that's the bottom line.

Just for the record, my opinion is that you should play with whatever shaft helps you to play better no matter what the brand but don't close your mind to any brand of shafts. (I won't)

For those wondering the difference between OB2 and OB Classic Pro, Royce answered this question in my post not to long ago.

Below are his words.

Ben

The OB2 have the wood ferrule where the OB Classic line has normal ferrule, albeit short.

There is one more difference, and when combined with the ferrule change it makes for a different hit, which is what we were after with the Classic line.

The OB line of shafts incorporate a noise dampening core to give it that soft but solid hit. the Classic line does not have that core, so it is solid through the middle of the shaft.

Both lines still have our tip end designed to reduce the cue ball deflection, so that is the same.

The Classic's hit harder and stiffer as compared to the OB's softer quieter hit.

I hope that helps!

I think it is the additional "solidness" of the Classic Pro that makes me favor it over the OB 2. The short white ferrule with the Classic Pro gets a lot of comments but it works for me.

Deflection Differences?

Will someone that has played with the OB-1, OB-2, OB Classic and OB Classic Pro tell me if the deflection is the same with all of the OB line of shafts, or do some have lower deflection than the others?

How would you rate the deflection from least to greatest between the four OB shafts?

Thanks,

Muziq

the plastic ferrule on the classic series weighs more than the wood ferrules so they have more deflection. in order of least to most:

ob-2
ob-1, classic pro
classic

the ob-2, ob-1, and classic pro are all pretty low and the difference is small, i think it is easy to adjust among those 3. the classic has a bit more deflection that is more noticeable and might take some more adjustment if you're used to the others.

I can see why you have said that, but these shafts retail at $235. Maybe $180-200 is a bit too high...but I think $180 would be a steal for a barely used OB2 shaft.

I havent tried the OB2, but have hit with a Z2, and do not like the diameter. So I can imagine them being similar. I much prefer the OB1 to a 314-2 also.

where I differ

I have to say the 314-2 out performs OB-1, Z-2 out performs OB-1-and-2,
OB CLASSIC out performs the 314-2,OB-1-and-2, but not the Z-2..

Ive yet to try the OB CLASSIC PRO, but if its any thing like its big bro, I Imagine it plays better than the Z-2, just speculating on that keep in mind..

For the record up until I tried the OB CLASSIC, I hated the OB LINE, BUT THE CLASSIC HAS DRASTICALLY CHANGED MY OPINION ON THEM.

I could be wrong too, but I agree with everything you said.

This is why I say that shafts and cues are like automobiles. One made just to our own personal liking...
