OB Chalk

I love OB shafts. I have classic pro + and just got a Control break shaft.
Using the break shaft on an old McDermott but. Every one who has tried it thinks it breaks great.
Currently using Magic Chalk which replaced Blue Diamond as my favorite.
Was thing of trying out the chalk but the shipping to me in NY is almost as much as the chalk.

I know you can't judge anything by the picture but magic chalk looks a little different then all the others I have used in the texture and this looks exactly like it. Wouldn't be surprised if the year of research was trying to figure out how to copy magic chalk.

Shane told you where it came from.. And how it came about... If it is repackaged Magic Chalk then we finally know where Magic is made.....

In person the OB is smoother...

Good for OB. I'm not only a dealer for OB, but I shoot with OB cues, thus if someone wants OB chalk I'd be happy to sell it to them :)

Yes, because we all know China would never steal or copy others products, give me a break. And I'm not saying this happened at all, but you

All I said was Shane already said where it was made and how it came about... This was not just a hey lets buy some chalk... They started this search several years ago....

There was no chalk they were copying and if it turns out to be the same then RJ your Russian stuff isn't Russian and we knew that already but it's good chalk so it wouldn't matter. That's not the case... The OB is lighter in color and smoother in texture.. It's not a copy of Magic or the same as yours... So I still have my sherlock hat on LOL.....

Royce and Shane looked at chalk from everyone who makes chalk... They could have gone with Blue Diamond in just a different wrapper.. I actually told Royce that I thought it would be a complete mistake and they needed to find something that was higher up the premium list from a maker who would adjust the formula according to what he wanted....

Last year they attended the Chinese expo... They spoke to all of the companies there who were in the chalk business and got samples to bring home and try... I spoke to Royce alot about chalk and told him what he needed to look for and needed to have in a chalk for it to be a solid competitor....

Basically even tho I knew it would be new competition and likely take sales that could have been for Great White I wanted to make sure it was a good chalk that was deserving of the OB brand and OB customer loyalty so I gave him all of the information I had acquired in testing and looking at the current chalks on the market..

When the manufacturer made the changes to the color and formula I got one of the first boxes that arrived... I was very suspect as I always am with imported products because there is always a chance for bad QC...

I took one piece to the pool room that night and played all night with it and even played a few racks using my break cue with the Hammerhead synthetic on it and it performed well... It has enough bite that I was confident that it was not going to let me down....

I then cut the 2nd cube and put it under the microscope to get an idea as to the quality and quantity of the abrasives... The manufacturer had indeed used graded abrasives and the coverage was there as well..I only hope going forward that OB makes sure the quality does not change and in speaking with Shane I am sure they will do inspections and tests toward that goal .

All in all this is a solid premium offering... I would have no problem adding it to my "will use" list if it's available and I don't have my chalk with me... With all the chalks out there I still have my short list...

Great White
Magic
OB
*Predator

*I will also note that while the recent Predator I received from CUE and CASE looked exactly the same as the original I had cut several years ago there have been a lot of posts about it being very prone to misscue now.. As with anything pool related please pay attention to who you are purchasing thru because I would not doubt that is could be being knocked off now.....

Chris, I never said anything about OB chalk. You were responding to a random poster who has no connection to magic chalk, why respond to him as if he's speaking on behalf of magic chalk?

So, for the record, magic chalk accused nobody of stealing or copying anyone's product, but a random poster did,,,

Thus , if OB is as good as MC it has no bearing where MC is made, just means they used quality ingredients !!!

The chalk war rages on:

What war? They all work the exact same if you apply it after every shot.

Apply it that often and the only thing they really do differently, EVER, is take more or less money out of your pocket. I guess you can call that a war if you want.

That's pretty far from the truth. Kamui chalk adheres to the cueball and causes more clings and unwanted effects. Blue Diamond/Predator/Kamui/presumably OB and maybe 1 or 2 others create far less dust and therefore keep your hands and shaft from becoming smurfified for much longer. To you it might not matter. To others, including me, it certainly does. The extra $3 I might spend on a piece of chalk every 8million balls is more than worth it to me. I don't expect it to be worth it for everyone, but your blanket statement is incorrect.

That was not my experience with Blue Diamond when I gave it a try.

Thank you for the questions everyone.

It has become far too common for companies in our industry to come out with a new product or an improved version of an existing product and then make outlandish claims that they can't back up. We have never done that with any of our products and are not planning on doing it with our chalk.

We spent the last year working directly with a new chalk manufacturer in China to come up with a chalk that would be considered by players to be a premium chalk. Something that players would try and hopefully perceive as being as good or better than many of the other premium chalk brands on the market.

We have had several players in the Dallas area test the chalk over the last 6 months and the feedback we have gotten from them has been great. Many players have compared it to Blue Diamond which I am personally a big fan of.

I just sent Dr Dave a PM to ask him to test it so hopefully he will be up for that and if so, we can send him some to test.

We are not trying to reinvent the wheel and we are not claiming to have the best chalk in the industry. However, we do believe that it will rank quite highly and will give players one additional choice in the chalk brand that they choose to use (which is always a good thing). We are first and foremost a pool cue manufacturer and that will always be our main focus but fans of our products have asked us for chalk for years now so we felt it was time to deliver.

Let me know if any of you have any questions and I will do my best to answer them.

Shane,

Carrying on Royce's ideals I see. That is great to see. It's one of the things I respect most about OB. I have never heard Royce or you tell me that a product of yours does something better than a product of someone else's. Instead, you tell me what yours does and ask if I like it. You really can't top that in business.

Not to hijack the thread (okay, maybe a bit), if you have any influence on the actual manufacture of RM chalk, I would love it if they made a Sky Blue version. I switched to Master Sky Blue on my home table because regular blue was more noticeable on my tourney blue Simonis.

I use RM chalk at the pool hall (green cloth) but still use Masters at home because of the colour.

I appreciate it, that means a lot. OB was always Royce's ship and still is as far as I'm concerned, he worked too hard to lose that. I am simply the new Captain and I may steer it on a different route to get to where we are going but the destination is still the same.

Lighter blue than the others pictured for sure.

Lighter blue than the others pictured for sure.

yeppers.. less colorant and less bleed so less staining.. I think Kamui, Magic and Great White may out perform it but only by a little bit.....

Premium is still about preference... I always tell people about Magic in person and tell them to stick with predator if they like it until they are ready to try something new.... OB now enters the discussion...

Based on the ingredients in regular premium chalk plus those in cosmetic grade and the number of viable formulas I would say you could have more chalk brands out than you could shake a stick at... And I am talking about one of those itty bitty sticks you could shake real fast....

There is no chalk war... RJ took my response to an uneducated poster the wrong way...

I DO want accurate Country of Origin marking on tips and chalk but not because of Magic but because of Ultraskins, Kamakaze and other brands that won't say in print where they are made but verbally will tell u they are made in the USA......

I would bet at this point there are 50 tips on the market with only about 12 being unique...

OB Tips

Shane any plans for making your own tips for your shafts instead of the Everest they come with. Michael

No comment at this time :)

Maybe work with Chris to have KiTech's as the standard tip? Or at least offer them as an upgrade? You guys really could do better than the Everest. It's not a horrible tip, but it leaves a lot to be desired.
