i just read that tons of people prefer the ob1 to the predator 314-2 series but they said it hits soft.. does that mean it hits like a meucci? if i like the hit of my schon do you think id like the ob1?

There is a difference between soft and 'whippy'. Personally I wouldn't consider OB1's soft. I have several OB1 shafts that I may part with if you wanna find out!

I really like the hit of a schon shaft, and yes, I like OB1 as well, so you may be happy with it..... for the record, I despise predator shafts...

To me, 'soft" is different from "whippy." I think it is a matter of personal perference.

Sorry, I know. I need better terminology.:)

ob-1

Well if you like the hit of your schon, then there is a good chance you won't like predator, or OB-1, but that is just my opinion.

You won't ever know unless you try.

I would recomend the OB1 to anyone!! I have a predator, and it was ok. I definetely prefer the hit of the OB1. It has a much better feel to me while still being low deflection. I just bought my first one, and am planning onb getting more.

ob1 hit

ob1 is a softer hit definately. I have tried a 29 inch 1st generation 314, 30 inch 2nd generation 314, and a 29 inch ob1. All radial pins on my Chad Mclennan sneaky (phenotic white joint). Personally I like the softer hit with the talisman I felt it grabs english better then the moori on the 1st generation and the everest on the 314 2. Overall it is a soft soft hit. If I smooth draw the cue ball from far you almost cannot hear it. It feels the best out of the 3 in my eyes. The 314-2 is well built. There is a lot more potential in that shaft then the ob1 shaft based on how much spin it can put with the least about of effort. But I feel the 314-2 has an artificial hit. It just feels like crap to me. The 314 is a good shaft too. Similar to the deflection of the ob1 but it just hits different. I like the 314 hit too but the ob1 hit with my mclennan butt just surpasses both the other two shafts. But based on my experience the 314 shafts hit depend on the butts too. Ive tried the 314-2 radial pin with its regular butt and I feel with that butt it hits even worse then my on mclennan. But a 3x8/11 flat face with ivory jointed mcdaniel with a 30 inch 314-2 hits like the heavenly sky. Drool. If you like a harder artificial hit that has the most potential for doing crazy spins then try the 314-2. If you like a solid hit with not too much deflection use the original 314. If you like a really soft smooth hit go with the ob-1 (almost same deflection as 314-1).

Oh I also tried a z shaft on a stainless steel 5/16x14 and a predator uniloc stainless steel joint (30 inch 314-2). Both have a really harder stiff hit. Predator uniloc cue felt the worse out of everything I've tried. It just sucked for me. The z shaft I had problems drawing and throwing inside english. My friend told me you got to aim where you aim. Cannot try to compensate. The z shaft cue is what I'd imagine using a ruler to strike a cue ball or something.

Like I said, I have tried all of those, and fell in love with th OB1 instantly!
With the predator, I have a harder time feeling the cue ball especially on delicate shots. The OB1 is solid wood in the first four inches9 including the ferrule). I beleive this is the reason for the solid feel of the hit. The predator are hollow in the first few inches.

I think they are all decent shafts, but my opinion is the OB1 hands down.

I have a Schon, and classify that as a stiff hit. I also classify the first generation predators as a stiff hit, but dead feeling. The OB-1 I think is a soft, but lively hit. I tried a OB-1 and loved it at first for the extra juice. Played for a few months with it and just wasn't playing as well (sold the predator shaft I had). Shot with a friends predator one night and shot lights out, so I sold the OB-1 and bought a 314-2. The 314-2 hits stiff with more feel then the original. All personal preference. I tried my best to love the OB-1, but just couldn't adjust to the feel of it.

I also have a Schön with an OB-1.

The wood ferrule and talisman tip make the hit so soft. I just changed the ferrule, put a Sniper and everything was better then ever.

I tried the 314, and didn't like it at all.
The 314-2 seems like a good shaft, would love to try one out.
