hello all,
i purchased an ob1 shaft here on azbilliards and it arrived a few days ago.it was blue from use so i thought i would clean it the way the ob site says to.
first i used a mr. clean magic eraser with just a little bit of rubbing alcohol on it to take the blue off.after letting it dry i used the rough side of my q-wiz to smooth down the fibers.then the smooth side to burnish the wood.the site says to usa a "lacquer based sanding sealer".
what is a good kind to use and whats the best way to apply it without a lathe?
thanks for looking

You should be able to find Sanding Sealer at the local home improvement store.

Most of what you find will be water based, which will work fine, but it takes longer to dry. I recommend just wiping it on with a cloth or brush and let it dry. After it's dry, smooth it out with whatever you have, sand paper or the Q wiz. Remember, these are abrasives and you don't want to sand away your shaft, so pay attention and just smooth it out.

I would recommend 2 coats if you have the time.

If you have any questions, call us! We'll be back Monday morning.

You can use Deft sander sealer from Lowe's. It is a lacquer base and will dry fast. Get the spray can and spray a little on a paper towel and wipe it on apply your wax and burnish.

thanks everybody.
i was having a problem after the burnishing with the q-wiz (to a glass like smoothness), where i would wipe the cue down with a micro fiber cloth and the cloth was tearing out tiny splinters from the cue(obviously not the ideal situation).
the cue repairman wouldn't be in for a few days and i was anxious to try my ob1 out. this is why my interest in a spray sealer in the first place as i was afraid when i wiped the sealer on,the shaft would splinter again .
i did a search online for "sprayable sanding sealer"and found the "deft"product you mention at sears.i went to sears and the salesman says that they don't sell it .hhhmmm.
was driving by my cue repairman(global billiards)and aaron was in so i decided to see what he thought.we discussed it for some time and aaron thought i had done everything right, and had never heard of this happening.
so i went home and got the shaft and aaron sealed it for free.
im thinking of calling ob on monday and get their thoughts on what happened.
so, thanks again everybody for the help,
scott

Call me when you can. 877-399-9901.

I may be in the shop, but just ask David to come get me. I'll tell him that you may call, but I don't know your name, so just tell him you're the guy with the shaft sealing problem.

Thanks

royce is taking care of me.
says he thinks the problem is the micro fiber cloth im using on maybe improperly sealed shaft.asked me to send it in and they will look at it.says he will see if they can reseal it and get it to like new,and if not will send me a new one.
VERY good guy to deal with.
customer service is above and beyond.knows i bought this used and doesn't care.

update

hello all,
i was contacted by dave(?) from the ob shop last friday.dave said that after examination that the shaft was not able to be repaired and that they would be sending me a NEW one instead.but due to the kamui tip not being under warranty that they would have to charge me for a new tip to be installed,if i wanted a kamui on the shaft.
after some discussion he agreed to try and remove my kamui tip from my old shaft and send it along with the new shaft as well for free(the tip was less that a month old).
i am happy to announce that i received my new shaft today along with my old kamui tip(in VERY good condition, i must say)taped to the invoice.

thank you very much!

Not to fun on ya too much but you're preaching to the choir.
We all know how Royce treats his customers. There are a few out there that could take some lessons.
