OB1 talk

OK, with all of the OB1 talk, I'm intrigued :) Is there a butt that performs best with the OB1? Or do you recommend playing the OB1 with the butt of your current maker. For example, I have a Scuggs Radial Pin cue. Would you get an OB1 shaft for it, or would you just get a new cue?

just get the shaft.

I doubt the butt of the cue really matters at all... Its more of a "looks" sort of thing... Things like ballance points and weight are so trivial, I would not give it a second thought...

you play pool with the shaft/tip/ferrule/.........

the pin back to the bumper has next nothing to do with making balls.....

as a matter of fact anything past 6 niches from the tip is more or less a "show and no go "

Dang, you mean I just wasted $100 + on an artifical lizzard wrap for the sneaky pete Predator butt I use the OB1 with? Here I thought the different texture along the wrap helps me know where my hand is on the butt without having to think about it. Besides most linen wraps either force me to use a slip stroke or grip the butt way to hard.

Diameter of the butt and balance point of the cue might be a matter of preferance I suppose.

No, what I meant was that you could put that shaft on a $100 cue or a $1000 cue and not really tell a difference.

I really dont understand how a wrap can " make" you hold a cue tighter...but hey...to each their own.......

To each his own I agree...

The wrap thing to help locate a grip position, I understand, but at the same time I think its another vice struggling pool players latch on to in the never ending struggle to master the game...

I can tell where I am holding the cue by feel alone... Its kind of obvious, to me, when I have it all lined up and my grip in the right spot. It feels natural and comfortable. I think more players should let go of hang ups (even good ones like wraps) and learn to play with skill and skill alone. I think thats the best way cause then you can play under any conditions and won't have any mental hangups holding you down... /shrug

but yeah, to each his own... Just get an engineered shaft cause they are tournament essentials for sure. Just don't forget how to swing a bar stick so you can still eat every once in a while ;)

Some of yall jsut take things totally the wrong way.........

But Me, Myself, and I beleives the ENTIRE cue makes the difference.........Feel of the hit....and so on and so forth........Some rather wood-to-wood joint some prefer steel joint.......so to me it all matters and jsut not all on looks.......

I myself have yet to shoot with a cue thas equipped with a OB1 shaft....so I cannot and will not comment on the shaft til I try it.......

Sorry if this post seemed like a rant

Yeah .. I think equipment jockeys should spend a little more time learning to shoot with what they have instead of hunting for that "perfect" holy grail cue then their games might step up a bit....

I admit I am a cue junkie also but I keep it under control (mostly).... so I aint bagging on anyone...

The butt does matter to a certain degree. A lot of it has to do with the joint collar as I've been told by people who would know. The butt matters because of the weight and balance point. I have not tried ob-1s with different butts but I have tried the same predator shaft with three different butts and they all feel different in terms of the hit itself. Two have stag collars and one has phenolic collar. Two have ebony wood and one has bacote wood. All have radial pins. Based on experience it matters somewhat.

of course joint types make a difference..

but a SS joint on a falcon isnt any different from the SS joint on a_________(fill in).... and thats kinda what I am getting at....

The op's radial pin (assuming>>) SS jointed Scruggs will perform exactly the same as a ________ radial pin SS jointed cue... assuming everything like balance points and what not are the same...
