OCD things you do when you play pool

Just to clarify...when I say "spin my cue" I don't mean the Tom Cruise Hollywood crap he was doing against Marzelle, I mean just spin it in the palm of my hand :o

Thanks for the clarification, I wasn't quiet sure what you meant. I thought maybe you were just being silly (Tom Cruise twirl)

I take everything out of my pockets except cash and mp3 player if I am wearing my earbuds.

And everyone that has either watched or played Johnny Archer knows what he does. picking lint off the table and pulling balls out of a pocket that he is not even shooting into! I thought I was gonna cry laughing watching him and Cliff play....Johnny and his powder and Cliff with his rag wiping down everywhere Johnny was.

I would have love to see that match. :)

Agreed- upside down chalk must be right side up.

I also don't like chalk on the rail right behind shot.

and I tighten my cue a lot. Not before every single shot, but almost as frequently. When I first started playing, I had a recurring problem with a cue not being all the way tight (or maybe it was loosening as I played), and now making sure my cue is super tight has become a habit.

I'm the same way with the chalk on the same rail, or even within my view of said pocket. I wouldn't call that OCD, just distracting.

I am not obsessive-compulsive.

I, too, am a chalk-herder. :)

I only drink with my right hand, never my bridge hand.

I must have empty pockets, with the exception of my wallet. It must be there to hold my pocket chalker at the right edge of my back right pocket. I almost can't play pool if I don't have my wallet and pocket chalker.

I wear a baseball cap, and before every shot, I flip it up a bit (so the bill doesn't block my view, I guess). After every shot, I pull it back down, even if I don't have to walk around the table.

And I probably have a thousand other OCD quirks. :)

A couple more:

I peel the label off the sides of the chalk, and put my lucky nickel underneath the cube in my pocket chalker.

If my chalk cube gets uneven, I'll pull it out of the pocket chalker, spin it around 180 degrees, and put it back in. This is only necessary because I always chalk with the same corner of the cube. :-)

How's that for OCD?!?

This is true for me as well. Phone and keys go on the table.

Sir, you are the winner so far.

Playing pool is my OCD thing, but specifically...

1. Chalk MUST be right-side up. I will go so far as turning over upside-down chalk(s) on other tables during breaks in the action.

2. Only 2 cubes on the table, unless I'm playing someone who insists on chalking after they've missed, in which case there must be three.

3. No chalk with crumpled or rounded corners.

4. I'm always rubbing the base of the middle finger on my right hand (my chalking hand) on the top of the rail to clean off any excess chalk that might have fallen there. (In truth, I think this only serves to grind the chalk into my skin and actually makes it dirtier.)

5. There can never be 2 cubes of chalk on the same portion of a rail (i.e. either the head or foot rail, or the half of the long rails between the corner pocket and the side pocket)

I think I do this less now...used to do a decent amount of OCD air practice stroke when in a groove. Almost like cocking a shotgun before it goes off!

i push my glasses up by the nose piece. i never realized how habitual it was until i played without my glasses and started poking myself between the eyebrows

I've been doing the same thing lately, switched to contacts for pool.

Oh and my wife says when i'm down on a shot I stick my tongue out a bit. Not like Michael Jordan did, just the tip sticking out a little. I never realized I was doing it.

1) Remove everything from my front pockets (cell phone, change, nicorette gum, etc)

2) Clean the CB before each game. Sometimes just a spin on the rail; other times with a towel.

3) Remove excess chalk from the tip by tapping it against my hand and running my closed fist up the shaft past the tip (see Scott Frost). It really helps keep excess chalk off the table.

4) Anyone who puts a chalk cube face-down on the rail is askin' for a whippin'

5) Brush the cloth after every session.

Of course, I'm the same guy who started a thread about how to use an art marker to "re-color" burns in the cloth. :D

After I chalk, I always put the chalk back on the rail so it covers a diamond, with the corners of the cube lining up with the corners of the diamond.
