Octagonal Chalk...Why?

Seriously who give a crap about the shape?? I found the shape nice to look at and made chalking easier. I own a tube of 5 and I went back to Masters after the first cube, er... Whatever piece

I love the feel and playability of Predator chalk is great but its way messy. I can't believe most people haven't said anything about it being messy. I cleaned my shafts and the table before playing one night and within the first 5 racks I noticed that my bridge hand was full of chalk residue and started to become sticky. I constantly had to wash my hands and wipe down my shafts so it wouldn't build up on me or the table.

I switched back to Masters the next time out and I didn't notice any difference. I may play with Predator in a match but never for practice again.
I've had a chance to play with it even more since I started the thread. I'm on my second piece since because I lost one down a pocket :(

Recently started noticing the mess, not so much on the CB, but every where else. My ring finger on my chalking hand gets completely covered as does my palm. Ferrule and top 6 inches of the shaft get real clingy from the chalk and my thumb gets a blue line along it off my shaft from bridging.

Tomorrow I'm going to stick a cube in the oven for an hour I think. Hopefully it cures some of the mess. Works with Masters.

I find my self chalking towards the flat sides with the logos on and the 2 directly between them so it makes a + sign...so I'm still wasting chalk like I did with a cubed shape chalk. Still, it plays great, is lasting a hell of a long time and despite the messy nature of it, probably going to become my new chalk.

I love the chalk and the shape. I understand if you're into chalk holders but, I love how it wears instead of the X pattern which wastes alot of chalk. Predator is my favorite chalk and at 5 pieces for $12, you can't go wrong. To each there own!

Recently switched to Predator chalk and I love it. It's consistent from one piece to the next, holds well, and is recognizable. Less flaking than Master's. Very few miscues in over a month of using it and only then on extreme shots.

Highly recommend it, especially given the price of less $2 a piece compared to some of the more pricey chalks out there.

hmm, yeah, i know what you mean

So a quick google showed some weird and wonderful shapes and sizes of chalk. Not sure about the double ended chalk though. Hard enough picking the chalk from your pocket to find you've got a nice blue finger tip with just one open side.

The double-sided chalks were designed for pool halls. For room owners to maximize use of a piece of chalk before chucking it. Brunswick marketed EVERYTHING to maximizing room owner profits. Amazing really. I would rather a room stock double-ended Master chalk instead of the Silver Cup I am seeing far too often...

I don't think it's being made any longer. It was called Pyramid Chalk and was 'made' by Elephant Balls.

Out of curiosity, I just purchased a tube of the Predator 1080 chalk from cheapcues.com on eBay. If I like it, I'll make my own chalk holder, cuz I'm crafty like that.

So, got the Predator 1080 chalk late last week. Tried it out, and not bad.

Like I said...I'm crafty. Noodled out a pattern and template, and hand-stitched this together today...btw, I'm claiming copyright on this right here and now!

May have to invest in a sewing awl, my hands are killing me from stitching with a curved needle.
